GAINESVILLE, Fla., July 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Exactech , a producer and distributor of bone and joint restoration products including orthopaedic implants and biologic materials, announced today that it has added a cemented stem to its Novation(TM) Hip System.
Exactech Executive Vice President of Research and Development Gary Miller, Ph.D., said, “This represents an important expansion of the company’s latest hip prosthesis line. The clinically proven Novation cemented stem is based on clinically proven technologies for joint reconstruction. Historically, cemented stems have been a common preference among orthopaedic surgeons and are often selected for patients whose bone is not suitable for press-fit applications. Now, with one integrated set of surgical instrumentation, the Novation system provides various styles of press-fit and cemented implants to allow surgeons the intra-operative flexibility of matching the implant geometry, materials and style to the patients’ needs.”
Exactech CFO Jody Phillips said, “This addition provides a broad platform of femoral stems in our Novation product line, which will act as the foundation for Connexion(TM) GXL, our enhanced polyethylene and the alternative bearing systems that we have planned, which will include hard- bearing surfaces.”
The domestic primary hip arthroplasty market involves more than 400,000 procedures per year.
