DETROIT, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- To mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation today announced the allocation of $250,000 in grant funding available for research aimed toward reducing domestic abuse.
“We want to fund research that will reveal effective strategies to prevent abuse and to evaluate the effectiveness of programs that treat victims and abusers,” said Ira Strumwasser, Ph.D., executive director and CEO of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation. “We will consider proposed studies in behavioral research, policy research or community demonstration and evaluation projects from nonprofit organizations in Michigan.”
According to Strumwasser, the foundation will fund several multi-year grants, each at $25,000 to $50,000 per year for a maximum of two years.
The BCBSM Foundation is the philanthropic affiliate of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, incorporated separately from BCBSM. The BCBSM Foundation is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. None of the BCBSM Foundation’s grant-making resources comes from BCBSM customer premium payments. The BCBSM Foundation was funded through an endowment from Michigan physicians in 1983 and from proceeds of an earlier prescription drug lawsuit settlement.
