AGA Research Scholar Identifies New Cancer Gene, University of Oklahoma Study

AGA -- Researchers at the University of Oklahoma Cancer Institute have identified a new gene that is implicated in turning normal cells into cancerous cells in solid tumors. The ground-breaking research appeared in Nature’s cancer journal Oncogene, and was led by Shrikant Anant, PhD, DVM, a 2001 recipient of the AGA Foundation’s Research Scholar Award (RSA). RSAs enable young investigators to develop independent and productive research careers in digestive diseases by ensuring that a major proportion of their time is protected for research.
