Westat is an employee-owned contract research organization founded in 1961 headquartered in the Washington, DC, area. Our staff of 3,500 designs and conducts research projects of all sizes in many disease areas. Westat provides support for individual components or all aspects of clinical studies. Our staff includes biomedical scientists, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, nurse specialists, computer system analysts and programmers, in addition to our established network of clinical collaborators.
Phase I-III Clinical Trials - Westat offers full-service clinical trial management by a staff of professionals with expertise in protocol development, statistical design, clinical site management, case report form design, computer database development, site monitoring and the statistical analysis and presentation of clinical data. We prepare Food and Drug Administration regulatory documentation (investigational new drugs, safety reports, annual reports), maintain an institutional review board and participate in data safety monitoring boards to ensure compliance with Federal Regulations. Data quality is ensured by our protocol-specific sessions, standard operating procedures and use of Oracle Clinical® for management of study data.
Phase IV Postmarketing Studies - Westat provides statistical survey design, development of sampling frames, Adverse Event and medical records review, risk assessment and biostatistical analyses to implement surveillance studies of morbidity and mortality. In-house expertise includes an internationally renowned survey statistics department, a national network of medical record abstractors, state-of-the-art computer-assisted telephone (CATI) and in-person interviewing capabilities, facility with death record and national health care database utilization and extensive resources to aid in subject tracking.
Epidemiologic Research - Westat conducts research for a broad range of observational studies to assess risk factors, disease progression, quality of life, outcomes, and cost of disease. Services include research design, selection of study subjects, subject tracking, interviewing, medical record abstraction, quality control monitoring and data collection, processing, analysis and reporting. Westat serves as the coordinating center for many major cross-sectional and prospective collaborative studies of the etiology, prevention, costs, types of care, and outcomes of a wide range of disease areas.
