The Right Place Program is a regional economic development organization for Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan. It serves businesses and entrepreneurs who are interested in location or start-up assistance, providing links to potential partners, venture capital and resources. The Right Place Program works with the Van Andel Research Institute and regional academic institutions to recruit and nurture the development of life-science firms in Greater Grand Rapids. A designated SmartZone surrounds the Van Andel Research Institute and health-care facilities. Grand Valley State University's new Center for Health Professions, also located in the SmartZone, will have 10,000 square feet of wet lab and incubator space on the fifth floor for lease starting in May 2003. In addition, the region has a diverse high-tech economic base, with a sophisticated manufacturing sector and a growing information technology sector.
Right Place staff also market the region to a worldwide audience: actively pursuing companies, professionals, and resources whose presence in Greater Grand Rapids would enhance the competitiveness of area businesses, or strengthen the regional economy. During and following an expansion or location project, businesses receive ongoing support through an introduction to the Greater Grand Rapids business community, and opportunities to collaborate with peers through inter-firm networks facilitated by The Right Place Program.
