Southeast BIO (SEBIO) is a regional nonprofit organization that fosters the growth of the life sciences industry in the Southeastern United States through efforts that promote entrepreneurship and bring together companies, investors, universities, and support organizations active in the development of the industry. Today, the Southeast is recognized as one of the fastest growing life sciences regions in the United States and home to more than 220 life sciences companies. SEBIO’s geographic footprint presently includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. North Carolina (#3), Georgia (#7) and Florida (#10) are among the top ten U.S. biotech centers, according to Ernst & Young’s Beyond Borders: The Global Biotechnology Report 2006.
SEBIO primarily facilitates the growth of the life sciences industry through its annual Investor Forum. The eighth annual SEBIO Investor Forum, which is set for November 8-10 in Atlanta, is expected to attract more than 500 attendees, including 150 investors from the Southeast and from around the world. The Forum will showcase 29 of the Southeast’s top early- and mid-stage life sciences companies. Panel and keynote discussions on the current state and future direction of the bioscience industry will be offered with such luminaries as Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D., acting commissioner of the FDA, in addition to multiple networking opportunities, including a Kick-Off Reception at the new Georgia Aquarium. Since 1999, former SEBIO presenters have raised over $2 million in public and private funding, making it the region’s most successful venue for linking industry investors with the Southeast’s top life sciences companies.
The SEBIO web site, www.sebio.org, is a resource for information on the Southeast life sciences industry. The site currently includes: a map of the region’s venture capital firms, incubators, and university tech transfer offices; the latest deals and new developments in the Southeast life sciences sector; and regional life-sciences related job opportunities on the SEBIO Job Board; and more.
As partners in the Southern Pharm HotBed Campaign on biospace.com, SEBIO constituents receive discounts for HotBed sponsorships along with numerous other benefits. Contact SEBIO at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on these and other programs.
