TECHNOLOGY LICENSING
In 2004, the Offices of Technology Management received 262 disclosures, filed 184 US patent applications, and executed 95 licenses and options with commercial partners, and managed 427 active licenses. To date, the University holds title to 504 U.S. patents.

START-UP COMPANIES
In 2004, 16 new start-ups were established and based on a license for university technology.

BUSINESS INCUBATION AND RESEARCH PARKS
There are two affiliated research parks that house more than 75 emerging technology companies in 2004.
The Research Park at the University of Illinois (www.tech.com/researchpark/index.asp) works closely with the campus and community to capitalize on the intellectual assets and business climate in Urbana-Champaign.
The Chicago Technology Park (www.imdc.org/CTP) is primarily focused on biotech and life sciences. The CTP is managed by the Illinois Medical District, and closely affiliated with the University of Illinois Medical Center, Rush University Medical Center, neighboring research institutes and hospitals as well as other Chicago area research institutions.
