University of Minnesota Expert On Stem-Cell Research To Deliver Keynote Address At Medical Alley MedEdge International Conference

MINNEAPOLIS, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Medical Alley announced today that Dr. Doris A. Taylor, professor of medicine and physiology, the Medtronic Bakken Chair, and director of the Center for Cardiovascular Repair at the University of Minnesota, will deliver one of the four keynote speeches at the Medical Alley MedEdge(TM) International Conference to be held June 23-25 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

In her speech, Dr. Taylor will discuss the compelling results of how stem cells can be used to repair damaged hearts. The discussion will include the latest clinical and pre-clinical data comparing myoblasts and bone marrow stem cells for cardiac repair, insights into how each cell type might function, and highlight preclinical data describing the use of progenitor cells for prevention of atherosclerosis and restenosis.

Dr. Taylor came to the University of Minnesota in 2003 after 12 years at Duke University Medical School, Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. She received her Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and did her postdoctoral training in Molecular Biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York.
