The Position

The Behavioral Science Research Manager role will be pivotal in shaping the behavioral model and focusing explicitly on increasing the likelihood of favorable outcomes for targeted behaviors. This role leads translating identified business goals into specific behavioral objectives and guiding the insights that make those behaviors possible. They are solely accountable for liaising with the Insights and Analytics organization to gather raw qualitative and quantitative data and then synthesizing to generate cross-validated insights about why people behave as they do. The initial focus of this role will be in support of the diabetes therapeutic area, specifically the upcoming Icodec launch.



Reports to Human Centered Design Lead. Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including marketing brand teams, UX/UI designers, behavioral science experimentation peers, analytics, technology, legal and compliance, to ensure alignment between marketing strategies and enable a cohesive, data-driven approach to customer engagement.


Essential Functions

  • Behavioral Statement Creation: Own the creation of behavioral statements based on the input of our business model leaders, for example “When [Target Audience] who [Limitations] want to [Motivation], they will [Behavior] (as measured by [Data]).” and ensuring that throughout the applied behavioral science process, the insights, designs, and pilots remain focused on the specific behaviors identified by the Icodec team. Be able to guide cross functional stakeholders through a requirement gathering process to thoroughly define each variable
  • Collaborative Insight Generation: Partner with the Insights & Analytics group on the generation of cross-validated insights by guiding the analysis of population-level data using inferential statistics and direct qualitative observations of both users and non-users of our products. Generate insights into customer empathy mapping to understand the customer experience
  • Tools and Documentation: Synthesize the cross-validated insights into a form that is useful for the ideation and evaluation process, including journey maps, pressure maps, etc. for use within the Icodec team and behavior science colleagues Incorporate behavioral insights into the design of Icodec customer engagement strategies
  • Research: Leverage understanding of a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to evaluate, cross-validate, and synthesize across both types of research inputs. Suggest methods of recruitment and selection of research participants, datasets and approaches of interest, and interview guides and observational processes
  • Scalability Assessment: Evaluate the evidence generated by pilots to make recommendations on the fitness of interventions for scaling. Know how strategy, insights, design, and experimentation are used together to create validated behavioral interventions
  • Synthesis: Given a set of initial insights, create robust artifacts that can be used for ideation and evaluation of behavioral interventions. Provide perspective on the promoting and inhibiting pressures that determine current and desired behaviors. Work closely with the UX/UI design team to incorporate behavioral insights into personalized user interactions
  • Impact Evaluation: Evaluate the results of experiments and guide stakeholders through synthesized insights about the cost-benefit ratio and risks of various interventions based on the data from pilot projects


Physical Requirements

20-30% overnight travel required.



  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree; Master’s or Doctoral degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Marketing or related field preferred
  • 5+years of experience, including demonstrated history in applying behavioral science principles in a marketing context
  • Extensive experience in pharmaceutical industry/life science brand marketing strategy and planning; experience within diabetes preferred
  • Experience with the gathering and synthesis of quantitative and qualitative data to generate insights
  • Understanding of design and experimentation processes within behavior science
  • Experience creating interventions that change behavior based
  • Know the details of what makes a good experiment and how to generate evidence that evaluates an intervention, as well as experimental management
  • Comfortable facilitating the ideation process, both within your team and with stakeholders from across the company
  • Confident running field experiments
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Experience with data analytics tools and customer journey mapping
  • Proven ability to translate complex behavioral insights and empathy mapping into actionable data-driven marketing strategies
  • Strong collaboration to work effectively with cross-functional teams and coordinate research
  • Strong communication skills to share insights with a broad range of stakeholders with differing levels of sophistication in research methodologies
  • Embodies leadership behaviors, including authenticity, servant leadership, will, empathy, decisiveness, and driving focus and simplicity
  • Strategic Planning, Execution and follow-through skills
