Executive Director, Global Head of Insights, Digital and Analytics- Foster City, CA

Reporting to the VP of Global Medical Strategy and Operations, this leader is a cross-functional partner who provides strategic guidance, planning, and solutions to enable the acceleration of impactful medical strategies globally. S/he contributes to the development and execution of evidence supporting Medical Affairs strategies and priorities, serves as the analytics partner to the VPs of MA functional units and their leadership teams, and leverages actionable intelligence to enable medical affairs planning and execution enhanced scientific customer engagement, and improved value to patients.

This leader is responsible for commercial alignment, prioritization, and integrated data analytics delivery across MA to strengthen connectivity and cross-collaboration and lead the strategic development and analytic execution of MA performance measurement and improvement, medical strategy, evidence generation, and voice of the customer. S/he recruits and develops a high-performing team and drives digital and data analytic innovation working in close partnership with commercial, development, legal, and IT partners.

Additionally, s/he is responsible for driving external engagement and thought leadership on related digital, data, and analytics topics in the industry.

Location: Foster City, CA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead and drive the evolution and execution of a strategic roadmap for MA Strategic Planning, Insights, Digital, and Analytics Development based on the key MA priorities and external market trends
  • Provide actionable intelligence to Medical Affairs VPs and their leadership teams to advance strategic objectives and improve alignment/coordination across functional units
  • Set & and execute the vision, mission, and effective collaboration model for cross-functional teams that support geographically diverse medical strategies in global and local affiliates
  • Support the development and management of medical performance expectations, enable actionable intelligence for ongoing improvement, and ensure full transparency around operational risks & and opportunities
  • Drive digital and analytic priorities and resource allocation to deliver optimal value to Medical Affairs operational and financial performance through high-impact digital, data analytic solutions and decision support
  • Strengthen connectivity between Development and Medical through analytic influence, coordinated clinical intelligence, and site/investigator/thought leader engagement
  • Proactively identify and share strategic opportunities and performance improvement opportunities across MA to maximize value delivery and create actionable guidance globally
  • Work directly with MA leadership to provide actionable insights and decision support for current and future performance drivers, strategic planning, and external events
  • Continuously improve insights, digital, and analytics capabilities for MA Strategy performance measurement
  • Develop, manage, and retain best-in-class talent, lead high-performance integrated teams for MA, and partner effectively with cross-functional teams as relevant; mentor and develop the next generation of leaders
  • Create and promote a global culture of diversity & and inclusion, develop exciting insights, and digital and analytics career paths, and ensure appropriate levels of technical capability and subject matter expertise exist across all levels, functions, and geographies
  • Own and manage the strategic analytics relationship with the primary external vendors supporting the team.
  • Advance Gilead MA reputation externally through industry forums, conferences, and industry round tables; stay abreast of key industry trends and integrate learnings into SPIDA strategy.
  • Work in close collaboration with MA leadership to deliver on accelerated customer engagement, operational efficiency, and geographic expansion priorities.
  • Partner effectively with Enterprise IT and Digital teams to enable improved data accessibility, quality, and timeliness while designing decision support systems and automating complex workflows.


Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
  • Scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) and business degree required with 14+ years of relevant experience.
  • Medical Affairs leadership experience required.
  • Experience in pharma strategic planning, data analytics, insights generation, and digital medical affairs
  • Change management and medical affairs innovation expertise
  • Experience in virology, infectious diseases, oncology or rare diseases
  • Strategic Agility - strong and demonstrated strategic thinking capability with proven success and discipline to focus on the execution of strategic decisions while balancing conflicting priorities
  • Change Agent - proven ability to lead during a time of significant change, and an ability to establish credibility and influence other executives through both formal and informal leadership
  • Drive for Results - track record of meaningful value creation and solution delivery through innovative ideas and agile execution; track record of developing goals and achieving business impact Stakeholder Focus - exceptional capability to build alignment with senior-level business partners and collaborate effectively with stakeholders and partners - strong knowledge and application of business analytics, predictive modeling, optimization, data science, ML and AI algorithms in a medical setting; ability to draw inferences from disparate pieces of data, identify and frame key analytic applications, and link to business implications providing recommendations in a business-friendly format; deep experience driving impact from adoption of analytics in business operations Influencing - demonstrated ability to influence areas not under direct control to achieve objectives and effectively communicate challenging goals & objectives
  • Leadership - demonstrated strong leadership capability with the capacity to make and act on decisions while balancing speed, quality, and risk
  • Collaboration - ability to work in a matrix environment and build strong relationships by being transparent, reliable, and delivering on commitments

The salary range for this position is: $341,190.00 - $441,540.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
