Job Details

AbbVie’s Genomics Research Center (GRC) is a center of excellence for genetics and genomics that supports the R&D pipeline from Discovery through Development. The GRC goal is to develop world class genetics and genomics research focused on finding the right therapeutic targets, helping AbbVie scientists better understand human disease biology, understanding the behavior and response to our drugs in clinical trials, and improving production of our biological drugs.

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Senior Scientist I / II in Functional genomics and systems biology of mammalian production cells (e.g. CHO, HEK293). This position will apply various functional genomics and systems biology approaches to increase our understanding of the complex cellular processes of mammalian production cells (e.g. CHO, HEK293) in order to improve production and product quality of Biologics. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential as the candidate is expected to operate in a high-paced and multi-disciplined environment across geographic locations.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Collaborate extensively and cross-functionally with scientists at the GRC and S&T Biologics in a matrixed research environment

·       Provide scientific leadership in developing creative and innovative functional genomics and systems biology approaches to gain scientific understanding in the complex cellular processes of mammalian production cells (e.g. CHO, HEK293) in order to improve production of biologics

·       Utilize gene-editing and overexpression techniques in mammalian production cells (e.g. CHO)

·       Perform arrayed and pooled CRISPR screens using various readouts, e.g. fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) and high content imaging assays

·       Apply ‘omics (metabolomics, proteomics) and protein-protein interaction approaches to mammalian production cells (e.g., CHO, HEK293) cultured under various conditions and genetic perturbations

·       Communicate and present project designs and results clearly, both to individual stakeholders and in group settings

·       Write publications, and present results at internal and external scientific meetings and conferences.

·       Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program.

·       PhD in the field of cell biology, biotechnology, bioengineering and/or systems biology

·       Experience with mammalian  cell culture (e.g. CHO, HEK293) and a variety of molecular biology and cellular techniques

·       Experience with genetic engineering, CRISPR/Cas editing, and overexpression approaches

·       Experience with ‘omics (metabolomics, proteomics) and protein-protein interaction studies

·       Knowledge of systems biology, mathematical modeling, and/or ‘omics data analysis is a plus

·       Ability to learn new skills and apply them in a fast-paced environment is a must

·       Creativity, problem solving, and attention to detail are required

·       Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential. Ability to work independently as well as in a team is a must.

·       Publication record demonstrating required expertise as first author in high-impact peer reviewed journals.
