The Research Biomarker group at Amgen is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate Scientist dedicated to the discovery, development, and validation of biomarkers in pre-clinical research. In this vital role, you will make major scientific contributions by employing a variety of biomarker techniques to support the progression of therapeutic candidates from discovery to early clinical development. You will be an integral member of a dynamic team comprising scientific and technical experts focused on biomarker research, and collaborate closely with other functional groups, including Cardiometabolic Disorders, Clinical Biomarker & Diagnostics, Pharmacokinetics & Drug Metabolism, Translational & Safety Pharmacology, Human Genetics, and Computational Biology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Discover, validate and quantify target engagement and disease stratification biomarker candidates for multiple pipeline projects
  • Employ a wide variety of techniques and platforms to develop and transition from pre-clinical biomarker data to support clinical biomarker assay development
  • Independently design, perform, and analyze laboratory experiments, including troubleshooting, optimization of assays, data collection, interpretation, biostatistical analysis, and presentation
  • Collaborate with biomarker scientists representing multiple therapeutic areas and work closely with other functional groups

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Or

Masters degree and 2 years of scientific/technical experience

Or

Bachelors degree and 4 years of scientific/technical experience

And

Advanced and proficient understanding and use of technical principles, theories, and concepts to perform an expansive range of work in a role

And

Basic knowledge of related and adjacent disciplinary areas.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience in executing laboratory experiments in industry or academic settings
  • Strong technical skills or expertise in several of the following areas: ELISA, Luminex, MSD, multi-color flow cytometry, complex cell-based functional assays, genetic manipulation of cell lines and/or primary cells, western blotting, RNA/DNA isolation, quantitative PCR, cell signaling/biochemistry, high-content imaging technology, and in vivo pre-clinical models of disease
  • Demonstrated track record of critical independent thinking, troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Willingness to learn and apply new technologies to develop impactful biomarker hypotheses and fit-for-purpose assays
  • Proven ability to multitask to meet aggressive timelines and execute deliverables
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
