Summary / purpose of the position

We are seeking a highly motivated self-starter to join our growing Data and Insights Generation and Strategy team and to lead the Medical Data Science team.

This role will lead a team that will play a critical role in building and expanding Ipsen’s data and data science capabilities. You will design, implement and scale advanced analytic and AI-driven approaches that will transform the way we generate evidence using patient data/RWD, as well as how we plan engagements with external stakeholders, measure the impact and learn from those interactions. Leveraging your expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modeling, you will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to contribute to acceleration and enhancement of evidence generation and medical research, clinical decision-making and enhancing our clinical trials planning & execution capabilities. In addition, this role will leverage AI approaches to simplify and automate internal operations and processes within Global Medical Affairs.

This role requires a deep understanding of both data science principles and the unique challenges and complexities of healthcare systems and data. It will collaborate extensively across the company to enable our evidence generation strategies and to identify new opportunities within Ipsen’s Therapeutic Areas (Oncology, Rare Diseases and Neuroscience). This role will also spearhead the assessment and development of new analytic and data science approaches (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing and associated data visualization) that leverage a wide variety of data sources containing patient-level Real World Data (RWD), such as healthcare claims, electronic medical records, PROs, and others.

Main responsibilities / job expectations

Data Science & Analytic Capabilities Building:

  • Innovate and experiment the use of various data science approaches that accelerate and scale evidence generation capabilities, while ensuring scientific robustness and impact;
  • Analyze large and complex healthcare datasets to identify patterns, trends, and correlations;
  • Work closely with medical professionals to develop AI-based models and approaches (machine learning, deep learning, NLP) that assist in clinical decision-making, including treatment selection and patient identification & stratification;

Evidence Generation:

  • Analyze large and complex healthcare datasets to identify patterns, trends, and correlations.
  • Work closely with Therapeutic teams to develop data science approaches that support clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes;
  • Develop innovative approaches for evidence generation that leverage latest advances in technology, AI and patient care;

Internal Optimization:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop tools and capabilities that optimize internal operations, such as study planning and execution, stakeholder identification, performance measurement, etc.
  • Work closely with the Medical Systems team to develop data science/AI-based approaches that optimize data collection, analyses and decision-making;

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with all functions within Global Medical Affairs and Local Medical Affairs organizations to understand their needs, identify opportunities and develop novel data-driven solutions;
  • Interpret and communicate complex analytical findings to diverse stakeholders, both technical and non-technical fostering a culture of strategic use of data and analytics.

Continuous Learning and Innovation:

  • Stay abreast of advancements in data science, machine learning, and healthcare technologies;
  • Educate and raise the awareness around Data Science and its potential in supporting Ipsen’s internal teams to generate buy-in across the organization;
  • Actively participate in relevant forums and seek to establish Ipsen as an innovator and thought leader.

Education, Experience and Technical Competencies

Education, Qualifications & Experience :

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master's) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in analytic/data science roles within pharma;
  • Strong methodological and analytical skills with regard to machine learning, deep learning, NLP and other AI approaches. Proven experience applying these approaches in healthcare space.
  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis and hypothesis testing
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python and/or R, with a focus on healthcare data science
  • Proven experience working with patient-level Real World Data, medical data and a strong understanding of healthcare systems;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Languages:

  • Languages: Fluent in English and if possible in French Competent in Medical Terminology
