Job Details

Sutro Biopharma is expanding its bioanalytical capability in support of discovery and development projects. This creates an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced mass spectrometry scientist to contribute to our oncology programs. The individual will be responsible for developing quantitative LC-MS/MS methods for both small molecules and biologics, performing in vivo PK/PD sample analysis, and conducting in vitro ADME experiments to support drug candidate selection and development. Brings experience with working on complex molecules such as polymer conjugated proteins, antibody-drug conjugates and small molecules. Fosters strong collaborations with Pharmacology, Medicinal and Protein Chemistry, Toxicology, and regulatory.        Responsibilities:     
  • Develop stage appropriate bioanalytical methods to measure concentration levels of antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, proteins, PEGylated molecules and small molecules in various matrices
  • Analyze, interpret, summarize and present DMPK/BA data to internal project teams, business development external partners and senior management
  • Establishes and manages CRO relationships as the principal investigator on studies
  • Authors DMPK/BA reports for IND modules, patent applications and publications
  • Identifies key questions and implements as appropriate in-vitro ADME assays to advance molecules from early concept through lead optimization to IND enabling studies
  • Perform metabolite identification using high-resolution mass spectrometer in biological matrices from non-clinical/clinical studies
  • Provide leadership to junior BA team members
  • May serve as a functional representative on project teams including programs with partner companies
  • May assist with designing and implementing organizational processes, budgetary and capital equipment requirements, and identifies needs for additional resources
 Qualifications:     
  • Ph.D. in the field of PK/ADME, analytical chemistry or related with a minimum of 7+ years of relevant industry experience (biologics & small molecules)
  • B.S./M.S. with demonstrated capabilities and experience (12+ years)
  • Superior communication skills and a team player mentality are expected
  • Track record of developing, optimizing quantitative BA methods, structural elucidations of small molecules, macromolecules and biologics
  • Strong background on LC-MS operation including both Triple Quad and High-Resolution Mass Specs
  • Experience with in-vitro ADME assays and data interpretation
  • Working experience with ADC, PEGylated molecules, and in immuno-oncology
  • Experience with developing automated sample handling and assay processes
  • Experience with databases, Laboratory Information Management Systems, and common analytical software packages
  • Familiar with PK analysis and interpretations
  • Familiar with relevant FDA guidance’s and ICH documents
  • A track record of writing technical reports to support regulatory filing, patent applications and publications
