Director, Global Serialization & Traceability Lead

The Director of the Global Serialization & Traceability Lead is ultimately responsible for the management of global cross-functional strategies and activities associated with the strategic implementation and management of critical serialization and traceability capabilities for all commercial products across manufacturing sites including contract manufacturing organizations. This position is a high visibility role to senior management and viewed as the expert for establishing and managing Gilead's highly complex digital capabilities that connect the shop floor to enterprise systems and reporting of our digital product footprint to global regulatory agencies and trading partners. This role also includes representing Gilead's interests and influencing external policy and governance organizations (e.g. Partnership for DSCSA Governance (PDG), GS1, etc.)

Essential Functions

  • Remain current on global serialization requirements, communicates those requirements and adjusts project / operational plans accordingly.
  • Lead the global cross-functional team to oversee and facilitate the evaluation, selection and management of technologies, consultants and vendors supporting project implementations and steady state operations across the value chain (i.e. packaging lines (internal and at CMO's), warehousing and current distributors).
  • Establish strategies, advanced standards and execution of action items for effective implementation and maintenance of the function globally.
  • Develop business relations with the functional heads of all internal Manufacturing Organizations and external partners.
  • Provide regular updates to sponsors, steering committee/working teams and management on progress. Manage the flow of communications both across the global organization and externally.
  • Independently oversee and manage the internal team and consultants to develop and refine strategies, goals, plans, and metrics for the successful execution of both programs, projects and steady state operations.
  • Manage the budget by forecasting resources needs, funding requirements and securing leadership buy-in. Once approved manage the annual budget.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to direct reports and team members to develop strong leaders at Gilead and ensure successful execution against targets and expectations.
  • Develops key performance metrics that measure impact the effectiveness of the function.
  • Manage and provide business analysis and organizational change management support and resources to all major projects managed in Manufacturing Operations.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Expert in global serialization and traceability models, technologies, processes, and operations. Must have in-depth and extensive hand-on expertise in US, EU and international serialization and traceability regulations, operating models, and timelines.
  • Packaging, Labeling & Supply Chain expertise in a GMP environment
  • Business Analysis, Organization Change Management and training
  • Advanced project and program management skills
  • Ability to collaborate and influence cross-functionally, externally to trading partners, global regulatory agencies and governance organizations
  • Able to develop advanced concepts, techniques, and standards. Ability to effectively lead global program management, business analysis, OCM and steady state operations.
  • Able to develop solutions to complex problems which require an in-depth degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness.
  • Ability to solve unique and extremely technical challenges which may serve as precedent for future decisions and affect the entire organization.
  • Independently develops organizational objectives and company policies.
  • Able to interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to department policies as well as establish new roles, responsibilities, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and the ability to deal across several global multi-national agencies, sites and organizations.

    Basic Qualifications Education and Experience
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in related field and a BS or BA; OR 10+ years of relevant experience and a MA/MBA.

    Preferred skills
  • Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma Experience

    The salary range for this position is: $199,835.00 - $258,610.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
