The Role:

Moderna is seeking a highly skilled, talented and motivated Sr. Scientist who will be focused on cellular and biochemical bioassays as well as CMC in vivo studies to support potency evaluation of Modernas mRNA pipeline from early to late development programs and to commercial products. The individual will work with other scientists within the Analytical Development and across the Moderna ecosystem.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Lead as part of the AD Bioassay team towards the development and execution of variety of bioassay methods to support potency evaluation of Modernas mRNA products

  • Develop and lead science-driven and phase appropriate analytical bioassay strategies to support development of projects from initiation of clinical development through to commercial manufacture

  • Design and implement experiments, data analysis, documents/reports writing and reviewing and present work to internal stakeholders and external CROs as needed

  • Understand and apply scientific principles, theories, concepts, practices and standards for bioassay method development

  • Demonstrate independent judgment in technique and method selection, protocol and study design and execution

  • Lead/participate in author and review of regulatory submissions, technical protocols, and reports, and agency interactions (IND, BLA, MAA and RTQ).

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues within Moderna drug product process development, QC, high-throughput testing group as well as manage CMOs and CROs to assure robust analytical method development, transfer, and execution in internal and external GMP settings.

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences or closely related field with minimum 3 year of experience or MSc in Biological Sciences or closely related field with minimum 5 years of experience in the development of bioassays

  • Experience developing and optimizing cell-based assays with demonstrated breadth of understanding around factors influencing their performance

  • Experience with a variety of bioassay development and their performance (ELISA, MSD, FACS, Luminex, REDA, others)

  • Experience in method development, method qualification and validation, and method transfer to a Quality Control group or CRO for GMP sample testing

  • Good understanding of regulatory guidance for bioassays and potency testing

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams and within a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail

  • Ability to lead complex bioassay method development and suggest appropriate strategy for potency testing

  • Ability to prioritize work, navigate through ambiguity, adapt to change and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to learn new techniques, work independently and as part of a team, perform multiple tasks simultaneously with a positive attitude

  • Develop junior staff and serve as a mentor and advisor for both performance feedback and technical guidance
