About the role:
At Takeda, we are a forward-looking, world-class R&D organization that unlocks innovation and delivers transformative therapies to patients. By focusing R&D efforts on three therapeutic areas and other targeted investments, we push the boundaries of what is possible in order to bring life-changing therapies to patients worldwide.
The Global Biologics team within R&D consists of approx. 100 scientists across two US sites (Cambridge MA and San Diego) and is responsible for the discovery and optimization of next generation biological drug candidates for our three main therapeutic areas Oncology, Gastroenterology and Neuroscience.
Central to this effort is the development of end-to-end data management and analysis capabilities to deliver novel biologics drugs. You will play a critical role in the design, implementation and maintenance of information systems in Global Biologics that enables data discoverability, accessibility, visualization and decision making. Working with scientists and with experts in data management, lab automation, molecular design, and machine learning in the Global Biologics organization you will manage scientific data, troubleshoot data issues, and ensure the smooth flow of information throughout the suite of tools used to track potential therapeutic molecules. You will develop expertise in the specific applications and capabilities in use within Global Biologics and leverage this knowledge to address issues impeding the continuous flow of data within Takeda’s systems.
You will be integral to creating a build, test and learn system for biologics discovery, in which predictions guide experiments and high throughput data generated is fed back to the models to improve the next round of predictions.
How you will contribute:
Work with scientists across Global Biologics to develop end-to-end data management capabilities for biologics discovery
Develop and deploy code that enhances the capabilities of software solutions like Genedata Biologics and ATLAS
Curate and annotate scientific data stores to ensure fidelity between laboratory observations and recorded data
Develop code to automate analysis workflows for Biologics design
Provide ad hoc data analyses and visualizations to further insights into scientific data
Identify recurring issues and work with internal / external colleagues to implement solutions
Collaborate with software vendors and the larger Takeda IT organization for the deployment and maintenance of systems and integration with other databases
Collaborate with machine learning colleagues across Takeda to develop an active learning system that trains machine learning models on data from biologics experiments and uses these data to inform subsequent experiments
Document best practices to ensure efficient use of scientist’s time and maximize value of insights provided
Guide scientists in proper use of tools and work hands-on with them to address challenges
Provide training to users of systems tracking scientific data in Global Biologics at Takeda
PhD degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology with 3+ years industry experience; or MS in relevant discipline with 9+ years experience; or BS in relevant discipline with 11+ years experience
5+ years of professional experience in informatics, software engineering, data analysis, data visualization or a related field
