Aspen is looking for a highly organized Research Associate to join its Translational Science team. This is a key role supporting neurosurgical procedures on rodents, immunohistochemical assays and imaging, data analysis, and assisting in assay development of test systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, perform and assist small animal stereotaxic neurosurgery, pre- and post-operative animal care, necropsy, and basic animal husbandry.
  • Assist with processing post-mortem brain tissue using histology microtomes and cryostats and moderately complex histological procedures including immunohistochemistry (colorimetric & fluorescent) under supervision.
  • Perform microscopic imaging and staining quantification and assist with data analysis.
  • Make detailed observations, compile, and file records with R&D department, maintain data on results of analysis and communicate results to supervisor and larger group of R&D scientists.
  • Maintain general lab inventory and preventive lab equipment maintenance, order basic lab supplies and reagents.
  • May assist chemical safety representative for Translational Sciences department coordinating all hazardous waste generation, containment, and removal.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum High School Degree required, bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines is preferred.
  • Some working experience in a research laboratory is required, central nervous system and human pluripotent stem cell focused laboratory preferred.
  • Basic Experience with stereotaxic surgery and rodent handling preferred.

Job Specifications:

  • Basic knowledge of histology and imaging suite applications preferred.
  • Possess sound laboratory skills and knowledge of scientific principles.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills and ability to properly maintain lab notebook.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to collect and present data in a concise manner. 
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have flexibility to travel (domestic and international), sometimes on short notice; US Passport or Visa and US driver’s license required to accommodate travel.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego is $26-$39 hourly. The final compensation offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Aspen Neuroscience is multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
