What you will do

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will report to the Senior Director of TAVNEOS Rare Disease MSLs. The primary responsibility of the Field Director is the management, performance, and coaching of a region of MSL direct reports and ensure compliant execution of field medical plans, strategy, and activities within US Medical Affairs, as aligned with Amgen's goals and objectives.

  • Lead a regional team of MSLs toward the implementation of field medical activities by communicating expectations and guiding the team to optimize medical strategy, prioritization, and performance in support of medical objectives.

  • Ensure the team achieves legally compliant and clinically significant scientific engagements and activities with healthcare decision-makers, payers, and other healthcare partners in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, industry codes, and the Amgen Code of Conduct.

  • Accompany the team to meetings with healthcare decision-makers and other healthcare collaborators to assess proficiency and provide timely and constructive performance feedback.

  • Apply interactive, aligned discussions, and guided activities to help the team identify opportunities for growth and leadership within and beyond the MSL role. This will inspire them to take an active role in career development and enhance their personal and professional potential.

  • Lead and coordinate MSL team meetings to support team building, best practice sharing, development, retaining top talent, and the accomplishment of field medical objectives.

  • Forge positive relationships and cross-functional collaboration with key internal collaborators in Global Medical, Field Sales, Value and Access, and Marketing teams to facilitate One-Amgen customer-facing engagement strategies and champion the value of the MSL team. May serve as a lead for critical cross-functional initiatives.

  • Identify, interview, hire, and onboard new MSLs to create a diverse and inclusive team.

  • Assess new hire field readiness by assisting Global Learning and Performance in the therapeutic area, disease state, and product training, including assistance with post-training proficiency assessment.

  • Provide input on the annual budget and resource allocation for the therapeutic area and ensure appropriate utilization of financial resources regionally.

  • Assist medical leadership in the development of field medical strategy, tactical goals and objectives, and Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs).

  • Support the planning and field medical implementation of local, regional, and national congresses. May serve as the FD lead for a congress.

  • Lead change initiatives as needed to drive the achievement of medical objectives.

  • Promote an inclusive and psychologically safe team culture that reflects core Amgen values

  • Advance cross-functional understanding of the MSL value proposition, identify gaps, achieve results, and set an example for others to follow by consistently demonstrating Amgen values and leadership attributes.

  • Promote compliant cross-functional collaboration and communication with commercial and value/access field management.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years in Regional Medical Liaison experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 810 years of industry experience in Scientific or Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company

  • At least five years in a Medical Science Liaison role

  • Previous MSL (or other Medical Affairs personnel) management experience

  • 3-5 years of experience focused on clinical practice, clinical research, or medical research. Experience in a medically related field can include post-doctoral training (i.e., residencies and/or fellowships)

  • Therapeutic area expertise in Rare Diseases, Nephrology, and rheumatology

  • Managed market/payer/IDN engagement experience

  • Possess a deep understanding of the regional therapeutic landscape and key healthcare decision-makers
