Supervisor - Research Animal Facility

We are looking for a dedicated and collaborative supervisor to join the Research Animal Facility team! In this role, you will provide oversight on the daily operations for our research vivarium, monitor the care and health of our animals, and ensure the facility is inspection-ready conditions at all times.

In this role, a typical day may include:

• Supervising and providing direct oversight to Animal Care Technicians at varying levels.

• Planning, scheduling, and delegating work to ensure efficient utilization of personnel, equipment and facilities. Reassigns team to other assignments based on staffing needs. Verifies time for FTE reporting and pay purposes.

• Instructing workers on procedures and protocols, such as feeding and cleaning schedules and documentation.

• Reviewing work of personnel to determine established procedures are followed and to verify accuracy of documentation.

• Maintaining accurate records and inventories related to supplies, equipment, receipt and assignment of animals.

• Conducting inspections of animal facilities to ensure the maintenance of required sanitation standards; observe and report noticeable or unusual changes in animals.

• Leading maintenance of the equipment within the research animal facility.

• Working with leaders to provide training programs for animal husbandry staff, ensuring procedures for new hires are completed in a timely manner.

• Advising workers regarding requirements for compliance with safety, and state and federal guidelines for operation of research facility.

• Providing input and conducting performance evaluations for assigned staff in addition to supporting hiring, termination, and disciplinary actions for team.

• Assisting the Animal Facilities Manager, in such duties as may be assigned or delegated, and assume the duties and responsibilities of the Manager in their absence.

• Maintaining facility documentation and tracking reports as necessary.

To be considered for this role, you must possesses at least a Bachelors degree in biological sciences, veterinary technology, or related field. A minimum of 10 years experience in laboratory animal science and technology is required. AALAS certifications are preferred.
