The Role:

As part of our vision, Moderna is committed to invest in R&D to further expand our impact on patients. We are building an independent research and business unit for genomic medicines, called Moderna Genomics (mGx) based in Technology Square, Cambridge, MA.This role is an exciting opportunity to join Moderna Genomics (mGx). mGx is an innovation engine for the company focused on discovering and delivering the next generation of in vivo gene editing and nonviral gene therapies and our ultimate vision is to enable Personalized Gene Editing.

As an Intern in Research Operations, you will support daily operational excellence within mGx Laboratories and across the mGx Business by interfacing with external service providers/vendors and a broad variety of internal groups such as Informatics, Procurement, Finance, Accounts Payable, Legal, Business Operations, High Throughput Preclinical Operations, Digital, Data Sciences, and Facilities.

You may also have opportunities to lead initiatives to increase efficiency, optimize space, improve communication, champion new ways of working, and facilitate collaboration between the support teams and researchers.

In this capacity, you will gain significant exposure to scientific, strategic, and organizational aspects of research at Moderna. You will also have the opportunity to develop new competencies in adjacent areas including project, program and alliance management.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Work with team members to help problem-solve operational issues to ensure scientists can focus on science.

  • Work with Head of Research Operations to build, maintain, and improve operational infrastructure to initiate and drive operational excellence in research labs and across the business. This will likely involve interfacing with Scientists, Informatics, Data Sciences, Accounts Payable, Digital, and Legal. This may include:

    • Working with project leaders to develop project workplans (leveraging typical project management tools such as power point, ThinkCell, and smartsheet)

    • Working with the Lab Manager to support daily operational needs of the mGx Cambridge Laboratories including but not limited to management of equipment, sample inventory, safety, cold storage, and common lab supplies.

  • Candidate for Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in a scientific field or MBA or PharmD with a passion for driving operational excellence

  • You are a highly organized individual

  • You are comfortable acting as an owner, enjoy interacting with your end users and can work cross-organizationally to drive execution in a fast-moving research organization.

  • You work independently yet engage proactively with team members, colleagues, and stakeholders to get alignment and drive projects forward.

  • Demonstrated ability to work fluidly and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and cross-functional environment, including a strong track record working cross-organizationally to achieve operational goals

  • A desire to be part of a high-growth, transformational company that is Bold, Relentless, Curious, and Collaborative
