The Role

The Scientific Advisor role is an exciting opportunity to be a critical part of the North American Medical Affairs team. In this role, you will be accountable for implementing and delivering the scientific communications plans and initiatives supporting the North American Medical Affairs strategy related to Modernas licensed vaccines and candidate therapies still in development. Initially, the role will be focused on the COVID-19 vaccine and longer term, this individual will help execute the strategy for Modernas Infectious Disease franchise within North America. To fulfill these objectives, the person in this role will partner and work closely with numerous external and internal stakeholders across Moderna, including regional Medical Affairs colleagues, Research & Development, and Commercial.

This role will help drive scientific excellence within the region for Modernas infectious disease portfolio. Reporting to the Director of Scientific Leadership within the region, the incumbent will be responsible for proactive and continuous assessment of the dynamics of the external and internal environment and, as needed based on this assessment, implement strategic plans that establish and evolve regional scientific communications, cross-functional medical projects and North American congress activities.

Heres What Youll Do

  • Manage the logistical support for North American Medical Affairs scientific communication and conference plans, including but not limited to scientific and clinical content for advisory programs, pre- and post-conference debriefs, learning and development of internal training events.

  • Provide scientific and technical input on the relevance/impact of scientific data within North America for our COVID 19 vaccine and future vaccination programs

  • Partners with North American Brand Teams and helps manage the implementation of regional scientific communication projects and processes for assigned products in alignment with brand strategies

  • Produce and/or review medical affairs slide decks and evaluate the evolving scientific landscape and literature for strategic alignment with our integrated evidence generation plans and scientific narratives.

  • Stays informed on professional information and technology through conferences and/or medical literature and acts as a therapeutic area resource to help educate and update the regional teams on the epidemiologic, clinical, and scientific profile of ours and competing products.

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable corporate policies and procedures.

  • Participates in the development of scientifically accurate marketing materials, medical education programs, advisories, and symposia as part of the regional team.

  • Provides guidance to regional cross-functional team members to aid in the development of promotional materials. Provides timely and accurate reviews of promotional strategies and tactics in accordance with established policies and practice standards, including regulatory guidelines to meet customer needs.

  • Additional duties as may be assigned from time to time

Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Minimum of MSc and/or MPH

  • Minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent, preferably in Vaccines and/or Medical Affairs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of clinical trial methodology and local regulatory requirements

  • Strong understanding of the compliance environment in which Medical Affairs functions

  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills, including ability to set goals and align priorities across multiple workstreams.
