The “Winning with Data” (WWD) capability in AbbVie’s International Commercial Business is driving the transformation of the organization into a data and insights driven decision-making organization and is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Technology Manager, Data Engineering to lead our data engineering team.
This role will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and driving innovation through data engineering solutions. As a key member of our Data and Analytics team, this position will play a crucial role in shaping our data engineering strategy and fostering a culture of excellence in data management. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a strong leader, and possesses a deep understanding of data engineering principles, and experience with Palantir Foundry (or other similar data management platforms)
In this role you will be responsible for:
Data Engineering Leadership: Lead a team of data engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, coaching, performance management and fostering a culture of excellence in data engineering practices.
Platform Expertise: Utilize the Palantir Foundry platform to design, build, and optimize data pipelines for various data sources and formats.
Scalable Solutions: Architect, develop, design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable and efficient data engineering solutions to support the evolving data needs of AbbVie's International Commercial business.
Data Pipelining: Develop and optimize data pipelines, data transformation processes, and data models to enable efficient and reliable data consumption by various business units.
Strategy Development: Contribute to the development of AbbVie's data engineering strategy, aligning it with business objectives and industry best practices.
Data Quality Assurance: Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data.
Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize data pipelines for performance and efficiency.
Security and Compliance: Ensure data security and compliance with regulatory requirements in data handling and storage.
Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of data engineering processes, standards, and best practices.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand their data needs and provide data engineering support.
Vendor Management: Engage with technology vendors and manage relationships to stay abreast of the latest product releases, updates, and industry trends.
Budget Management: Negotiate, secure, and oversee the availability of resources to meet the daily operational demands for data engineering.

Experiences that make you a strong candidate for this role:
Bachelor's Degree with 8 years’ experience; or Master's Degree with 7 years’ experience; or PhD with 3 years’ experience.
7+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
7+ years of experience with programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, SQL, and/or Scala.
5+ years of experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop, Spark, and/or NoSQL databases, and familiarity with cloud platforms, such as AWS or Azure.
Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry or other similar data management platforms, such as Snowflake and DataBricks, including data governance, data modeling, and analytics capabilities.
Strong data engineering leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team of professionals.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements and scientific concepts into elegant technical solutions with code.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a highly regulated environment.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry regulations, such as data privacy laws, is highly desirable.
