We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join the Neuroscience Therapeutic Focus Area (TFA) at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. Our team is dedicated to collaborative research to develop new delivery technologies and therapeutic strategies for nervous system diseases. This includes Parkinsons Disease, Multiple System Atrophy, Dementia with Lewy Body, Alzheimers, Fronto-Temporal Dementia, Motor Neuron Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression, and Pain.

In this role, you will lead and support projects to design, develop and functionally validate gene therapy and gene editing tools, novel viral vectors, and nucleic acid therapeutics for treating neurodegenerative disorders. You will support technology development for antibody-based strategies to improve targeted drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to the CNS and into specific tissues and cell types of interest.

As an Associate Scientist in the Neuroscience team, a typical day might include the following:

  • Designing and conducting experiments to evaluate the biodistribution and validate novel targeted drugs (siRNAs, ASOs, shRNAs, CRISPR systems, vectorized antibodies or peptides) and viral vectors in in vivo models.

  • Planning, initiating, and completing in vivo experiments: Mouse handling and monitoring, behavioral assays, anesthesia, dosing (IV, IP, SQ, RO), surgeries (including stereotaxic surgeries), dissections and sample collections (brain, peripheral tissues and biofluids).

  • Conducting sample processing and analysis with molecular biology, biochemical and immuno-based assays: RT-qPCR, RNA sequencing, ELISAs,WB, CE-western.

  • Performing histology: Tissue processing, fixation, cryopreservation, tissue sectioning (vibratome, cryostat, microtome), handling of histological slides and basic histological staining methods, IF, IHC, RNAscope ISH methods, IHC/ISH multiplex assays.

  • Conducting light and fluorescent imaging of histological sections with conventional microscopes, confocal microscopes and high-throughput slide scanners.

  • Performing data collection and analysis (cell counting, unbiased stereology, quantifications in Halo, Image J, Prism)

  • Troubleshooting, optimizing and developing new assays under minimal supervision.

  • Keeping up-to-date and well-organized records of experimental protocols and results.

  • Surveying current and relevant literature to improve scientific and technical knowledge, introducing novel concepts to optimize and develop new assays.

  • Communicating and reporting experimental findings at group and department meetings.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a Masters degree in biology, neuroscience or a related field with 2 - 3+years of lab experience. Experience in Neuroscience, Neuroanatomy, and in vivo models of neurodegenerative disorders are highly desirable.

Salary Range (annually)

$66,400.00 - $103,800.00
