VP, Global Clinical Supply Chain

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the SVP of Global Supply Chain, and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization (PDM), the VP Global Clinical Supply Chain will lead a team of supply chain professionals accountable for the end-2-end (E2E) global clinical supply chain strategy and execution to ensure uninterrupted supply of Gilead's clinical product portfolio from trials through to launch and new product introduction into the commercial supply chain. The role is accountable for the operational life cycle management of Gilead's products collaborating closely with all PDM functions including PDM strategy, Regulatory Affairs (RA), Technical Development, Manufacturing operations and Quality Assurance (QA) as we move through the Lifecyle of a product, develop the clinical supply chain, global and regional execution strategies, through launch and new product introduction (NPI) and transfer products into the commercial supply chain. This role is accountable for the development for the Clinical Demand & Operations Planning (CD&OP) process working closely with Commercial Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and Executive Sales & Operations Planning (ES&OP). This role is accountable for Global Supply Chain (GSC) risk management process aligned with overall PDM's risk management process.

Focus Areas

Design, recruit, staff and lead an organization which will:

Design, develop and execute Supply Chain Strategy and People Capability
  • This position is responsible for developing and directing the overall strategy of the following functions of the clinical supply chain management organization: demand and supply planning, comparator sourcing, secondary packaging and labeling, shipping and distribution, inventory management, launch and NPI execution.
  • Define and execute comparator sourcing strategy with Clinical Operations
  • Develop and implement Supply Chain strategies for multi-country regions.
  • Input into the strategic sourcing and relationship management team requirements, KPI standards and policies for managing key vendor relationships/partnerships and participate in review meetings
  • Strategy and execution plan moving away from spreadsheet planning to system planning which will include people, process, and systems as part of SAP and beyond.
  • Building Supply chain capability within the clinical supply chain team to meet changing complexity of product portfolio
  • Training, ongoing development strategy and implementation plan for the organization working closely with Executive Director Supply Chain Excellence and Strategy team.


Process and Systems and execution:
  • Accountable for implementing and maintaining performance management process that ensures uninterrupted supply of product to patient from label generation and approval, secondary packaging and labelling, production planning, material planning, launch and new product introduction through to transition to commercial supply.
  • Accountable for service level agreement with Clinical operations to ensure uninterrupted supply and KPI's met and tracked on monthly quarterly and annual basis that feed into the PDM goals and KPI's.
  • Accountable for risk management across the global supply chain linked with PDM risk management in PDM strategy team
  • Accountable for inventory policy, strategy, and execution that ensures equipment, material and services provided on-time-in-full (OTIF) to sites, depots and patients as required.
  • Work with trade compliance and RA when liaison and interfaces with regulatory agencies required.
  • Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are in place to ensure uninterrupted supply, plan do check act process (PDCA) in place for continuous improvement, following quality management system.
  • Accountable for launch excellence, new product integration and transfer into commercial planning with key milestones and metrics tracked.
  • Establish a CD & OP process linked to S & OP for commercial products and ES & OP.
  • Establish and maintain with IT and other Gilead parties' systems and tools to deliver uninterrupted supply, including but not exhaustive to artwork tool, label generation and approval tools, planning and inventory tools
  • Accountable for the operational product life cycle of Gilead's portfolio of biologics and small molecule products, inclusive, but not exhaustive to from clinical to commercial to sunsetting of products, capacity including cold chain, Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) management, risk, ESG agenda; working closely with PDM strategy team. This will be the go-to role for everything related to these products.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Science, or Engineering discipline. Master's degree and/or professional qualifications in Supply Chain Management desired.
  • 15+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience with at least 5 years of experience focused on management and leadership roles in supply chain function with focus on clinical trials preferred.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and executing strategic plans and objectives for organizations and departments with a focus on clinical trials supply chain preferred.
  • Solid understanding of current industry trends.
  • Leadership qualities of the successful candidate include the following: collaboration, building and developing high performing teams, accountability, cross functional engagement and influence, program management, strategic vision, executive presence, coaching, goal setting and performance management.
  • Strong business acumen. Capability to navigate and lead in a highly matrixed environment.
