About the role:

Are you looking for a patient-focused, innovation-driven company that will empower you to shine?

Join Takeda as a Principal Automation Engineer where you will architect and lead the integration of new equipment, technologies, and products into our commercial biologics production facilities. You will work in the Process Automation group to support manufacturing operations and implement a Digital Transformation Roadmap. You will work with the members of the Site Engineering group to maintain and continuously improve our process automation systems and business processes. This is a hybrid role that reports to the Associate Director of Automation Systems.

How you will contribute:

  • Lead projects and teams to expand our multi-product commercial production facility with new equipment and new products
  • Architect the future of our digital maturity by integrating new hardware and applications or by upgrading our aging systems and equipment to the latest technologies
  • Act as subject matter expert in cross-functional communication with manufacturing, quality assurance, facilities, engineering, and validation
  • Estimate, design, implement, validate, and deploy changes using GMP/GDP and Automation Change Management principles
  • Develop your skills in people management and leadership
  • Mentor junior engineers and manage contractors on project, budgetary, and schedule requirements
  • Support the ongoing manufacturing operations with a customer-focused mindset to ensure product is continually delivered to our patients

What you bring to Takeda:

  • Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree
  • 8 or more years working experience in DeltaV and integration of other control systems
  • Experience with industrial control networks (Ethernet, Profibus, OPC) and interfacing technologies (Aveva PI, PAS|X MES)
  • Expertise in automation project delivery / change management
  • Experience in Pharma / GMP / FDA regulated industry and working with validated systems
  • Expertise with bolstering data integrity, cybersecurity, and reliability of systems
  • Knowledge of biopharmaceutical / biologics manufacturing processes
  • Core knowledge of ISE S95 and S88 principles
  • Desire to handle projects independently and grow your presence in the organization

Important Considerations:

At Takeda, our patients rely on us to deliver quality products. As a result, we must follow strict rules in our manufacturing facilities to ensure we are not endangering the quality of the product. In this role, you may:

  • Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas.
  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
  • Work in a cold, wet environment.
  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary.
  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
