Position: Human Resources Manager

Reporting To: President (functional reporting to Director, HR)

(Hybrid -  Remote 2 days per week, in office 3 days per week)

Position Objective

· This role provides HR leadership and ensures effective delivery of human resources services to all NBPI employees. It promotes and enhances NBPI’s culture, ensuring the culture is a point of difference enabling the company to attract, retain, and motivate talent through a constructive work environment. This role serves as trusted advisor and confidant to senior functional leadership, providing insight and guidance to best manage and lead the workforce.

 

Major Job Functions

 

· People Liaison / Employee Relations

o Build rapport with, and get to know, all employees; understand their concerns and desires and provide solutions to address them. Listen and respond to employee concerns and ideas and use this information to intervene and/or drive changes to maintain high engagement levels;

o Understand and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and requirements as well as NBPI and Nitto policies and procedures. Work with internal and outside counsel as necessary;

o Ensure consistent application of discipline and review all terminations to ensure equitable treatment and compliance.

· People Development

o Provide training and coaching to managers and leaders to enhance their people management skills. Coach senior leaders on complex leadership and people issues including development, engagement, and talent performance;

o Understand the development needs of the employees and recommend specific training, rotations, learning opportunities and or activities to grow the skill base of our talent and have the skills and competencies ready for when we need them in the future. Make science a priority in development. Know when to implement customized training or learning opportunities and when to use “off-the-shelf” products. Employ corporate training modules as available;

o Champion and ensure the use of the Nitto Competencies in selection, evaluation, and development of people;

o Employ various feedback mechanisms to assure personnel have understood the training and are confident in their application of the subject matter;

o Ensure an effective induction and orientation for all employees new to NBPI;

o Lead the performance review and management processes. Provide training and skill building for managers and employees on both effective techniques and use of the relevant company systems;

o Lead any talent management or succession planning processes.

· Talent Acquisition

o Understand NBPI strategic direction and scout for people with the necessary skills and background needed to achieve it.

o Build industry and academic relationships to develop a talent pipeline. Work with hiring managers to understand their requirements and preferences for candidates and help them learn the hiring process.

o Help create an employer brand that attracts desired candidates, this includes recommendations for the rewards (compensation and benefits) structures that help attract and retain people;

o Supports processing immigration/visa for employees and works with designated legal resources;

· Organization Development

o Help the staff concentrate on science through interventions in conflict resolution, communication, building team effectiveness and recommending reporting structures and career ladders. At times get into a team and facilitate discussions between leaders and their staff. Help create a desirable work climate through social and out of the box activities;

o Manage any employee survey or engagement measurement process and recommend countermeasures or interventions to address any areas of deficiency;

o Act as ambassador of Nitto Corporate Philosophy and Corporate Social Responsibility;

o Provide HR support and leadership for business transformations such as for mergers, spinoffs, and acquisitions.

· HR Administration

o Manage compensation including market surveys, job evaluation and pay ranges, and pay rate adjustments;

o Report on HR metrics;

o Liaise with regional and global HR teams in the U.S. and Japan;

o Help manage workers Comp/UI/FMLA/SDI claims administration.

 

· Covid Response

o Help maintain Covid-19 vaccination records, maintain a safe work environment, and manage workforce in regard to employee wellness for symptom tracking, contact tracing, employee notices, mask mandates and other pandemic response procedures as they evolve.

 

Please note:

Payroll and employee benefits are administered as a shared service by the NDT HR Director.

 

Education, Licensure and/or Experience

 

· BS or BA in a Human Resources related field

· 2 - 5 years’ Human Resources management experience

· 2+ years HR experience in Biotech/Pharma

· PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred

 

Core Competencies

· Well-developed HR skills and competencies in talent acquisition, people and organization development, and compensation

· Strong people skills; ability to work successfully with senior management, R&D scientists, drug development teams, administration staff, etc.

· Effective communication skills (verbal and written) including the ability to effectively communicate with people from different cultures and backgrounds

· Effective negotiating skills with proven ability to influence without direct authority

· Strong organizational skills; ability to manage projects, multi-task; work well with others across different disciplines and levels in a professional setting; flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. Identify priorities and implement solutions.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality

· Experience training personnel at all levels in group settings in key areas of organizational behavior preferred

· Effective time management skills to meet time critical deadlines

 

 

Physical Job Requirements

 

Office/Lab environment. Lifting to 20 pounds may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear. They are required to stand, walk or sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. Mandatory Covid-19 vaccination policy in effect.
