The Role:
This is an exciting role and a critical member of the Financial Planning and Analysis team, supporting a dynamic organization that is radically changing the biotech industry. Reporting to the Head of FP&A for the R&D Organization, this role will be a strategic thought and business partner for the Research Organization and will be responsible for leading and managing annual operating budgets and forecasts, month-end close and management reporting activities, supporting business development transactions and collaborations, long-range planning and scenario analyses, and ad-hoc operational and strategic decision-making support.

This role will provide a unique exposure to managing and supporting a leading Research organization as it continues to grow to support the potential of mRNA technology. The ideal candidate has supported Research or an early Development organization in the past, is obsessed with learning and gaining efficiencies in day-to-day finance operations, enjoys fast paced environment and bringing rigor into processes. He/She will work directly with the SVP of Research & Early Development, the Chief Scientific Officer of Infectious Disease, and the Head of the Head of Moderna Genomics, and sit on Research Leadership teams. The ideal candidate has experience managing through matrixed organizations and has extensive experience driving continuous improvements in financial and operational processes.


Heres What Youll Do:
Financial Planning/Decision Analysis:

  • Forecasts & Budget: The individual is responsible for leading, consolidating, analyzing and submitting the forecast and budget (expenses & headcount); providing financial analysis and support for budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning; as well as preparing financial narratives, headcount reporting, provide drivers, data for financial presentations to senior management and analyzing business risks / opportunities

  • Actuals: The individual will be responsible for completing monthly accounting and reconciliations. Additionally, they will need to construct cross-walks between budget/forecast and actuals, and assume responsibility for the Research cost centers (reviewing requisitions and invoices). Share responsibility in executing accounting and business procedures, ensure integrity of process Support Monthly and Quarterly reporting to our Executive Committee

  • Collaborations / Business Development: The individual will provide support to our Business Development organization as well as be responsible for interactions and budget/actual reviews with our collaboration partners

  • Lead Financial support and analysis for Quarterly Business reviews

  • Lead financial analysis to support investment prioritization and capital allocation exercises

  • Support continuous improvement efforts within the finance organization to streamline processes and improve communication and flow of information to the business

Reporting

  • Partner with Accounting, Financial Systems, and IT to ensure consistent reporting views for senior management and the Finance organization (FP&A, Accounting)

  • Drive master data governance to facilitate management reporting through consistency, standardization, and automation/efficiencies

  • Proactively identify reporting needs for upcoming corporate exercise (forecast, LRP, budget) by partnering across functions (FP&A, Accounting)

  • Drive ongoing corporate reporting efficiencies and improvements by streamlining existing and future processes

Heres What Youll Bring To The Table

  • BA/BS in accounting or finance required; MBA a plus

  • Strong understanding of Research (activities, priorities, etc) and experience supporting Research or Early Development organization

  • Proficiency with excel and Financial Planning Tools (Hyperion, BPC, etc)

  • 10+ years of FP&A experience; life sciences industry experience required

  • Proven track record of strategic business partnering and influencing across the organization

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to balance multiple priorities in a very fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and presentation skills including to Executive Management

  • Experience with tier 1 ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle) and planning and reporting tools preferred
