AbbVie’s Genomics Research Center Computational Genomics is looking for a highly motivated computational biologist (Senior Scientist I/II, Bioinformatics) to join a team of bioinformatics scientists investigating aging and age-related diseases. AbbVie’s GRC is a center of excellence for bioinformatics, functional genomics, and human genetics. The GRC works across all R&D including discovery and clinical development, and multiple areas such as process sciences, global epidemiology, search and evaluation, and corporate strategy.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced computational biologist with extensive experience in designing and implementing bioinformatics methods as well as analysis and interpretation of various types of omics data to solve biological and clinical problems. The candidate should be familiar with developing and improving genomic data workflows on large NGS datasets, contemporary data visualization methods, as well as writing clean, well-documented, efficient code in R, bash, and python. Candidates should have demonstrated proficiency in a Linux environment and high-performance distributed computing and should be knowledgeable in the areas of statistical inference. Individuals with experience interpreting biological data related to understanding human disease biology, drug target identification, or treatment mechanism of action are preferred. The successful candidate will be responsible for formulating scientific questions into coherent analytical efforts, developing rigorous statistical methods, and communicating scientific findings to internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the candidate may contribute to presentations at scientific conferences, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and regulatory filings.
