Lab/Area:Stem Cell CoreDescription:
The Stem Cell Core is a state-of-the-art facility providing comprehensive pluripotent stem cell related services (standard and customized), training and consultations. Our focus includes reprogramming of somatic cells into iPSCs, differentiation of iPSCs into various cell lineages and genome editing in iPSCs. Our mission is to support academic and industry sector stem cell researchers to accelerate cures through stem cell research. We are currently recruiting for a highly motivated biologist to join our Stem Cell Core Laboratory as a Research Technologist. This is a laboratory-based position, and expertise in tissue culture and molecular biology is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
Culture human iPSCs, primary fibroblasts and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs)
Characterize human iPSCs to assess their quality by visual inspection and molecular and biochemical techniques (immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, RT-qPCR)
Perform quarterly mycoplasma testing on cell lines and report results to users
Human iPSC reprogramming from fibroblasts or PBMCs
Differentiation of human iPSCs into different cell types using established protocols with optimizations
CRISPR gene editing of human iPSCs
Manage and operate Core facility semi-independently
Maintain a detailed lab notebook
Help manage collaborative projects with leading Gladstone & UCSF stem cell labs
Work collaboratively and cohesively in a small, highly-functional group
Report to Core Director regularly to discuss on-going projects and infrastructure issues
Interact and communicate effectively with many multinational researchers on a weekly basis
Enforce Core rules, procedures and guidelines
Communicate with vendors to maintain professional relationships and negotiate discounted pricing on equipment, reagents and service
Provide researchers with technical advice
This is a full-time position. Availability for limited work on weekends is required.
The ideal candidate will be motivated to facilitate cutting-edge disease-related research. The objective for the person in this position will be to assist investigators to attain ambitious research goals by providing scientific expertise, services, and maintenance of an orderly, organized environment where resources can be most effectively accessed and utilized by a large number of researchers.
Qualifications
B.S. Biological Sciences, or equivalent
2+ years of work experience in a laboratory applying molecular biology and cell culture techniques
Experience in pluripotent human stem cell culture, propagation and differentiation preferred but not required
Must have experience working with scientists to provide research support and laboratory management
Good understanding of molecular and cellular biology principles required
Enthusiastic team player
Ability to problem-solve and provide solutions
Ability to be resourceful and proactive to assisting researchers and carrying out experiments
Manage time appropriately in an environment requiring attention to shifting demands
Accept constructive feedback to implement operational modifications where necessary to improve accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
Desire to learn new scientific techniques

Hiring Range:
Research Associate I (non-exempt)
$52K ($25/hr) - $61,177 ($29.41/hr)
