HR Business Partner (HRBP) - Global Manufacturing

Position Description:

Reporting to the VP Human Resources for the Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing (PDM) Organization, the HRBP for Global Manufacturing will be accountable for being the lead HR Business Partner supporting the SVP, Global Manufacturing. In this partnership you will develop the long-term people strategy, planning, and execution within the function. The manufacturing footprint includes internal sites in Ireland, Canada and California and a large external network of CMO/CXO, etc. These manufacturing sites include about 1,300 employees. Additionally, you will oversee a team of 4 Human Resource Business Partners who support the sites directly.

In addition to direct leadership responsibilities, this leader will provide cross-functional matrix leadership for the broader Manufacturing HR organization which comprises cross functional partners within PDM (Quality Assurance, Technical Development, RA CMC and Supply Chain), HR Centers of Expertise (Talent Acquisition, Talent Development & Inclusion, Total Rewards, Employee Relations, and HR Shared Services). This matrix leadership will require this leader to interface effectively with the relevant global and regional HR leaders/teams to maximize both global and local opportunities, aligned to Enterprise and PDM/Manufacturing level business and HR priorities.

This leader will work cross-functionally, across the broader Gilead, Gilead Commercial and Kite. This leader will provide strategic direction and management to continue to build a strong HR team and create a high-performance working culture so that the business achieves its ambitious performance objectives and people strategies keep pace.

This role is site based in Foster City, CA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with SVP Manufacturing and leadership team to establish and execute a globally consistent people strategy, organizational design and talent management approach - supported by a scalable and effective local HR infrastructure.
  • Advise and coach Manufacturing leadership team on HR policy and program matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions, which may be significantly complex.
  • Viewed as subject matter expert and maintains contact with external sources to stay apprised of current trends and new legislative changes.
  • Actively looks for/learns about/rewards new ideas and innovative ways of doing things; allocate resources and remove barriers to advocate or invest in promising ideas.
  • Provides input to design and drives execution of programs in accordance with Enterprise HR policies, procedures and initiatives.
  • Analyses business needs, defines the talent management strategy within the client group and influences recruiting decisions. Drives strategies to develop bench-strength and succession plans
  • Manages and resolves complex Employee Relations issues, in partnership with Employee Relations and Legal, through effective and objective processes, ensuring adherence to appropriate employment laws and Gilead policies.
  • Ensures organizational success in complex business situations such as merger, acquisitions, exceptional business trajectories, and /or reorganizations.
  • Shape the organization, coach, lead and develop the team; foster cross-functional teamwork as well as a respectful culture based on Core Values/Leadership Commitments which attracts, develops and retains high caliber HR talent to build and shape a talent pool that will drive the future successes of the organization.
  • Provide motivational leadership through personal example and by forming and leading a highly motivated and energetic HRBP leadership team.
  • The position will be based in Foster City, Ca.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 12+ Year experience in Human Resources
  • Experienced HR professional with pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry required.
  • Experience working in Tech Development, Manufacturing operations or Supply Chain required
  • Experience working in countries with a different/diverse cultural and business background
  • Strong track record leading an international HR team preferably for US Headquartered organization
  • Leads with a global mindset and enterprise perspective, takes into consideration how decisions impact other parts of the organization/function, strives towards integrated solutions to maximize impact on business
  • Thrives at dealing with high level of ambiguity and complexity, highly adaptable to different situations and agile in response, guides/supports the team/function in time of change
  • Understanding of business objectives and the ability to translate those objectives into HR priorities.
  • Data driven in approach to analysis and decision making with the knowledge and ability to interpret and develop key insights from available data and drive strategy based on those insights.
  • Strong work ethic and personal integrity. Engenders trust and influence all levels across matrix organizations.
  • Strong executive presence with ability to command respect and gain credibility through exercise of sound business judgment, clear decision-making, excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates in-depth consulting, influencing, negotiating, and conflict management/resolution skills.
  • Able to develop solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems, which require an in-depth degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation.
  • Has in-depth knowledge and understanding of Human Resources legislation/employment law, principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Able to discuss the fundamental issues of the HR functional areas (training, compensation, benefits, etc.) with management, while not necessarily being the subject matter expert in each HR specialty area
  • Prior experience and desire to manage a geographically disperse team. Is a champion, coach and mentor for the development of others.
  • BA or BS degree, preferably with an emphasis in HR or Business.
  • A Master's degree can be substituted for 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to travel extensively internationally.

The salary range for this position is: $266,815.00 - $345,290.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
