The IT Director, Group Architect is a leader within the Employee Experience organization. This leader will coordinate high level activities related to roadmap architecture and engineering for systems and software supported by the EE team. Perform architecture and engineering as an expert in the design and execution of the Employee Experience vision. Assists with direction, standards, methodologies, and tools for leveraging tools & processes, assesses emerging technologies for applicability to the business.
  • Will review incidents to identify opportunities to shift left and lower total cost of operations.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, independent, and responsive to changing demands and workloads.
  • The candidate must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, presentation, facilitation, and diplomacy skills, as well as display a high level of personal integrity consistent with Gilead's core values.
  • Deliver results to achieve and improve SLA/KPI performance by focusing on effective cross functional team working
  • Transfer system design and integration knowledge to team members and partners.
  • Design and implementation of mission-critical IT service processes across the enterprise.
  • Support System Managers to provide cost effective and efficient services to the business.
  • Ensure alignment of processes to corporate and IT strategy.
  • Proactively monitor incident resolution, analyze, and highlight trends and root causes to Problem Management and/or relevant support teams
  • Participate in High Impact Problem / Root cause analysis and reporting out to senior leadership


Job Responsibilities

System Design & Integration
  • Will be accountable for the overall roadmap for employee experience.
  • Ownership of the Integration knowledge of all systems within the EE portfolio and associated documentation and knowledge transfer within the teams.
  • Will work cross team to identify integration points and risk for all new products and services that will have an impact on the employee experience. This knowledge will be shared with tower owners to prepare and participate accordingly.
  • Will provide technical oversight to our MSP for EE development projects.


Architectural Deliverables

Business Partnership
  • Develop effective and broad trusted strategic relationships with key Gilead business partners and users on the basis of strong communication skills, credibility and expertise in matters related to system requirements to bring solutions to business partners in a collaborative environment
  • Integrates the efforts and perspectives of multiple stakeholders and resources to effectively manage and deliver on expectations
  • Understands key stakeholders' expectations and their impact on the technical direction of the design or product selection.


Process Design / Improvement
  • Provided standard design artifacts for all designs and recommendations
  • Evaluates the applicability of existing systems and processes. Provide inputs to the process in alignment to future IT and business strategy
  • Incorporates current existing Gilead standards to address solution needs required by business partners.
  • Accountable for the development of long-term plans in the area(s) supported, factoring in an understanding of future directions of the business area as well as changes in the technology landscape.
  • Advises clients on discrete technology-related business problems, leveraging appropriate IT colleagues and/or vendors as appropriate.
  • Formulates options including assessing their relative merits and risks and works with key stakeholders to determine the best solution in alignment with Gilead IT's Transformational strategy.


Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
  • Able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of IT functions and services, should possess familiarity with many technologies, with particular focus on their capabilities and limitations.
  • Able to program proficiently in PowerShell, CSS, HTML, & C#
  • Experience with serverless technology: Azure Functions and/or AWS Lambda
  • 10 years of automation with demonstrated business impact
  • Extensive experience with Desktop as a Service (DaaS)
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more aspects of infrastructure and understanding of IT Services
  • Knowledge and understanding of general computer controls, IT process management (i.e., ITIL) including incident, problem, change and release management
  • Conference room technology, MAC, PC, Mobile (Hardening, EDR, Insider threat, Agent management and interoperability)
  • Proficient in Secure development / Service practices (Certificate based, Key Vault, Privileged access management)
  • Experience working with Enterprise IT Frameworks (i.e., ITIL, COBIT, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ServiceNow for tertiary Integration.
  • The candidate must have a broad understanding of IT Services, Architectural design, Integration and Software design related activity and the relationship of IT Service Operations, Transition, Continual Service Improvement and including but not limited to hardware and software platforms including ‘On Prem', ‘SaaS', and Internal Cloud hosted systems.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree and Fourteen Years Experience OR Bachelor's Degree and Twelve Years Experience OR Master's Degree and Ten Years Experience OR PhD and Eight Years Experience
  • IT Service & System Architecture experience with functional and technical aspects of IT Operations
  • 8+ years' experience in security design for the end point.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • ITIL External Certification (preferably ITIL V4)
  • Familiarity with ML and AI in the End user space
  • Advanced understanding of SaaS, Cloud based applications and platforms
  • Working knowledge of System and Development Life Cycle process.
  • Good Experience / knowledge of ServiceNow platform
  • Azure Administrator, Developer, Solutions or Security Architect desirable.
  • Familiar with AWS products and offerings.


The salary range for this position is: $172,550.00 - $223,300.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
