Job Details

The protein sciences group within the Small Molecule Therapeutics and Platform Technology division at AbbVie is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated scientist with expertise in cell cultures. As part of a multidisciplinary group responsible for cloning, expression, purification, and biophysical characterization of protein targets, the applicant will be expected to independently design and execute all aspects of protein expression experiments.

The candidate should have extensive protein expression experience and be proficient in all standard bioprocess and aseptic technique. The successful candidate will be part of a highly dynamic group in a collaborative environment for advancement of drug discovery pipelines at AbbVie.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes cell culture process in shake flasks and bioreactors.
  • Protein expression from E.coli., insect cell or mammalian cell systems.
  • Characterize expression with SDS-PAGE, western blot.
  • Interact with the different cross functional team members and communicate precise, reliable, and reproducible data in a timely manner.
  • Excellent documentation of experimental results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Summarize experiments, results, and conclusions and present to the team.

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or other relevant biological sciences.
    • Associate II requires BS with 3+ years of relevant experience.
    • Scientist requires BS with 5+ years or MS with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in protein expression using E.coli., insect (Sf9), or mammalian system (HEK or CHO cells).
  • Good problem-solving skills. Capable of finding the root cause of problems and solve them with innovative ways.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build open and collaborative relationships in a multidisciplinary environment are essential.
  • Good record keeping and able to efficiently manage several projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
