OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

The Cell Engager team of the Oncology Drug Discovery Unit is seeking an experienced and highly motivated immunologist, with a solid background in cytokine biology , immune-oncology and innate cell immunology. This successful candidate will play an important role in optimizing VD1 cell engagers, to improve the biological function (potency and persistence) of gamma delta cell engager products. i.e. immune cell activation, survival, proliferation, and function, and cancer/immune biology in tumor microenvironment. The scientist will lead or interface with discovery projects leads and collaborate with colleagues within department and cross-function teams to drive the development of Cell Therapy discovery platforms. The position is a lab-based role and will require the individual to be hands-on and leading from the bench. The candidate should be able to Contributes to design, development and execution of research assignments, potentially contributing to multiple projects.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design and execute in vitro and ex vivo functional assays to assess therapeutic concepts aligned with principles of VD1, COBRA and othe CE platorms
  • Provide scientific knowledge and expertise in antibody evaluation, gamma delta T cell biology and molecular biology
  • Drive assay development for both immunology focused and translational assays
  • Design and execute in vitro immunological phenotypic assays including proliferation,
  • suppression, activation, polarization, MLR, and cytotoxicity assays on multiple immune cell types
  • Design, execute, and analyzing large 16 color flow cytometry panels
  • Design, perform, analyse and interpret experiments to deliver agreed work packages to agreed timelines and objectives
  • Actively participate with team to help isolate VD1, PBMCs and T cells from skin, and blood
  • Collaborate with CTI to incorporate new VD1 isolation strategies for use in cell engager programs in vitro and in vivo
  • Design and execute in vitro/exvivo and in vivo experiments for evaluation of novel cell engagers
  • Interface with CROs to augment in vivo capabilities
  • Contributed to weekly team and cross-functional meetings by presenting results, data and troubleshooting efforts
  • Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of cell engager platforms and antibodies
  • Keeps current with emerging trends in immne cell engagers for application in cancer therapy
  • Able to clarify requests and provide suggestions and put data into context especially in context of assay design and quality of data
  • Demonstrates in-depth technical knowledge within various assay development platforms
  • Indepently investigates new immunological techniques, that can be applied to team projects
  • Serves as the in vivo immunobiology lead on projects provinding key scientific feedback to advance programs in a matrixed environment
  • Identifies, plans and executes novel scientific projects
  • Independently manages workload and expectations

  • May influence decision making within the department
  • Conducts scientific presentations to internal audiences
  • Receives high level instructions on all work, determines methods on new assignments, works closely with manager, may manage junior staff

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • PhD degree with post doc experience and 2+ years relevant experience in biotech or industry preferred; MS with 8+ years experience, or BS with 10+ years experience (previous industry experience strongly preferred)
  • Extensive experience in antibody discovery and assay development
  • Good understanding of Immunology with experience with gamma delta T cells preferred
  • Previous experience in Immuno-oncology preferred
  • Profound skills inin vitroandin vivoimmune cell characterization and function assessment, such as, multi-color flow immunophenotype, multiplex cytokine measurement, cytotoxicity assay, and other molecular based assays
  • Proficient in the isolation, culture, and functional characterization of primary human immune cells.
  • Proficient with exvivo models for screening IO therapies is strongly preferred
  • A demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement
  • Excellent team player with a can-do attitude with an ability to thrive in a dynamic “biotech- like” environment and work in cross-functional project teams
  • Self-motivated, collaborative with excellent time management and organizational skills

Base Salary Range: 130,200.00 to 186,000.00. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.

The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
