General Summary
The internship typically consists of structured hands-on general Information Technology (IT) work to add direct value to the team. Provides technical assistance and works closely with other technical staff to develop and apply practical skills. Learns tools to assist Information Technology. Assists technical staff in fulfilling requests or resolving incidents. Provides customer service support. This is an internship position within Southern Research's Information Technology department.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with SR Technology staff to resolve technical incidents or fulfill service requests
- Manage telephone calls from users and attempt to assist them with their information technology questions and problems
- Provide technical customer service assistance while following established procedures to resolve user technical issues
- Assist in performing hardware and software installation procedures
- Perform software configuration on stand-alone computers and laptops
- Assist in hardware and software inventory management
- Provide support in setting up end-user training activities
Learning/Growth Opportunities
- Learns to perform installations and/or configurations of hardware and ensures user devices and/or AV equipment connect with network, wi-fi and associated peripherals
- Learns to identify individual component failures and replace computer, audio, video or control system components
- Learns to document and appropriately escalate incidents
Citizenship
- This internship requires US Citizenship.
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
- HS diploma or equivalent
- Currently enrolled/pursuing a degree in IT related discipline
- 19 years or older at the time the internship begins
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suites products

- Will acquire experience and exposure to information technology systems, programs and processes
- Will acquire experience with regulations pertaining to information technology
- Will acquire experience with regulations pertaining to storage and handling of confidential data
- Learn to accurately define incidents, problems, and events in the trouble ticketing system
- Learn to troubleshoot and resolve desktop computing and audio-visual issues
