The Precision Medicine organization within AbbVie is committed to advancing drug development and patient care through building a deep understanding of disease biology and developing tools to optimize clinical decision making and customize treatment for patients. The Translational Immuno-Oncology (I-O) group within Precision Medicine Oncology department uses advanced technologies to study cancer immunology, discover biomarkers and validate mechanisms of action of AbbVie’s innovative I-O oncology pipelines to inform clinical decisions including indication/patient selection, and combinations.  

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced scientist with a strong background in immunology/IO and a proven track record of research accomplishments to join this dynamic team.  The successful candidate will work both within the Translational I-O group and as a member of cross-functional interdisciplinary teams. The candidate is expected to design and execute experiments independently to enhance our translational and biomarker research for the I-O pipelines.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Independently investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods/ techniques to address critical project needs.
  •  Proficiency in standard cellular and molecular techniques, and strong technical skills in performing multiparameter flow cytometry and data analysis.
  • Continuously seek to improve existing laboratory methods and processes. Read and adapt literature to accomplish assignments.
  • Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis.
  • Generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions independently. Generate reports and present data to the team.
  • Initiate and maintain collaborations with cross-functional teams such as Discovery, in-vivo pharmacology, Pathology/CDx, bioinformatics, DMPK and others to ensure alignment on scientific rationale and data generation workflows.

Basic Qualifications:
•    BS degree with 7+ years or MS degree with 5+ years in cancer immunology or a related discipline. 
•    Experience with immune cell-based assays including flow cytometry, cytokine secretion (bead based) assays, cell proliferation assays, NK, or T cell killing assays, and ELISA.
•    Perform routine molecular and cellular assays, cell culture and bioassays such as luciferase-based assays.
•    Analyze data using biological and statistical software such as Flowjo, Prism, Excel, etc
•    Demonstrated effective interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
•    Good general laboratory and organizational skills and proven ability to work successfully in a team environment.
•    Demonstrated critical thinking skills as well as excellence and productivity in independent research.
•    Must be proactive and able to work effectively on multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic multidisciplinary research team.


Preferred Qualifications: 
•    MS degree with 6+ years in cancer immunology or a related discipline
•    Ability to design and develop tailored flow cytometry panels and execution of these panels on flow machines such as BD symphony and Cytek aurora is highly desirable. 
•    Experience in biomarker assessment with platforms such as MSD, Nano String, and O-link assays.
•    Hands-on skill set in designing and performing complex ex-vivo experiments using fresh human tumor tissue samples such as 3D culture of immune cells and cancer cells.
•    Expertise in human immunology, tumor immunobiology or prior exposure to translational research/biomarker discovery is a plus.
•    Knowledge of analytical software for routine data analysis, and exposure to AI based high throughput analysis platforms, such as OMIQ is desirable.
