The Role:

This is an exciting role and opportunity to be a critical part of the Accounting & Internal Controls organization supporting a dynamic and high growth company that is radically changing the biotechnology industry. The Manager of Global Financial Controls & SOX Compliance will report to the Senior Director of Global Financial Controls & SOX Compliance and will play a key role in managing the system of global financial controls with a heavy emphasis on the Companys Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program and its Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR). This role will partner closely with Accounting, FP&A, Digital, Legal, HR, and Operations to help ensure that the company remains in compliance with its SOX regulations and that Business Process and Digital internal controls are designed and operating effectively. This role will contribute to the annual SOX risk assessment, help execute the annual SOX 404 and ICFR Compliance Plan,and facilitate that plan and the related audit procedures with our co-sourced SOX testing team and our external auditors. This role will also provide subject matter expertise and corresponding training of process and control best practices to help ensure proper documentation and timely updates to the related risk control matrices and corresponding documentation. As part of our continuous improvement initiatives, the GFCS Manager will play a key role in assisting process owners in identifying gaps in our internal controls as we continually improve our business processes and systems applications. And given the fast pace of our organization, this role will also be asked to contribute to a variety of Finance initiatives outside of the SOX compliance program.

The successful candidate will have public accounting and/or public company experience and familiarity with the components of effective SOX compliance programs. Experience in the biotechnology industry, technical accounting and cost Accounting and/or scaling up Commercial operations would be a significant plus. The successful candidate will also have a proven ability to drive and manage change ideally in an increasing complex global business with multiple evolving financial and business processes.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of SOX risk assessments to support internal and external SOX and global compliance process and annual audit plans

  • Manage/perform various annual and quarterly SOX audit procedures across operations

  • Support/drive quality control in the execution of SOX (and statutory) audit procedures by assisting with: (i) planning, scoping, testing and ensuring deliverables are within budget and timelines, (ii) identifying and defining gaps/risks/issues on a timely basis, (iii) maintaining internal control process and procedure documentation, (iv) preparing SOX and ICFR audit work papers and substantiating conclusions with respect to control findings, (v) developing recommendations to remediate control deficiencies and improve controls and procedures, and discussing/communicating recommendations with appropriate levels of management, and (vi) ensuring professional standards, U.S. GAAP and international standards are adhered to.

  • Support timely coordination with consultants and external auditors on SOX 404 and ICFR/statutory audits and ensure SOX information is updated and easily accessible through our Audit Board audit management tool by the consultants and external audit teams.

  • Partner with IT business partners to help ensure all ITGC controls are documented properly and functioning effectively as designed, and assist with coordination of SOX related ITGC audits across the globe as applicable

  • Actively manage Audit Board audit management tool to centralize all SOX related documentation, including control matrices, process and procedures, testing and test results, and remediation plans; and provide training to business process owners to increase ownership of SOX processes and allow management to independently monitor compliance efforts

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to mitigate/manage risks while reducing overall SOX and ICFR compliance costs; including a program to further mitigate SOD (segregation of duties) risks

  • Partner with functional business areas to analyze and determine the impact to internal controls as we implement new accounting standards, new systems applications or process improvements

  • Proactively train control owners, finance and accounting staff and business partners/stakeholders on SOX (COSO framework, PCAOB guidance), ICFR and other international internal controls compliance requirements

  • Assist with management of co-sourced consultants supporting SOX compliance program.

  • Assist with broader Finance, Digital and GRC (governance, risk and compliance) initiatives as they surface.

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

Required

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline

  • 5+ years with progressively increasing responsibilities in financial reporting, external auditing, internal auditing, and/or SOX related experiences

  • Experience working for a Big 4 public accounting firm or consulting firm specializing in audit / assurance / SOX 404 testing preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404, and COSO Internal Controls Framework, risk assessment practices; Internal Controls over Financial Reporting

    • SSAE 16/18 review requirements

    • U.S. GAAP; international Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and compliance

  • Experience with financial risk assessment and controls rationalization and the ability to drive key initiatives to support regulatory requirements

  • Strong MS Office skills required, including proficiency in Excel, Sharepoint, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with Audit Board or other tools used to project manage SOX 404 testing, evaluation and dashboards updates on status and progress.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of biotechnology industry with Commercial operations a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with cross-functional teams, developing policy and strategy to identify and enhance an already effective SOX internal controls program

  • Strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize solutions and solve problems

  • Excellent project management skills: proactive, responsive, takes ownership and accountability, drives processes, meets timelines and critical deadlines, and adheres to budgets.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, build and cultivate strong relationships across all levels of the organization

  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated, willing to Roll-up your sleeves in order to drive and deliver results and improve processes

  • Proven ability to thrive in a global fast-paced, multi-functional team environment while having a proactive mindset and collaborative work style

  • Experience with SAP, Workday, ServiceNow and Blackline will be considered a plus

  • Experience with audit analytical tools a plus.
