Job Details

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the Membrane Technologies group, which supports preclinical therapeutic antibody discovery within the department of Therapeutic Proteins. In this role, you will apply molecular, cellular and biochemical approaches to express and purify a broad range of cell surface receptors (ie. GPCRs, ion channels, transporters, and signaling receptors) and protein complexes for use as immunogens and screening/sorting reagents. We hope you are excited by the opportunity to work with numerous functional groups to come up with innovative approaches to tackle some of the most challenging therapeutic discovery projects being pursued at Regeneron.

As a Senior Scientist, a typical day might include:

  • Coordinating with project champions, research program managers, and other collaborators on construct design and desired reagents to support antibody discovery programs

  • Conducting small- and large-scale protein expression across a range of expression systems (from bacteria to insect to mammalian cells)

  • Conducting protein purification (affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion) and biochemical (FSEC, SDS-PAGE, western blot, FACS, radioligand binding/radioactive flux assays) and biophysical (SEC-MALS, DLS, BLI, SPR) analysis

  • Providing input on experimental design and suggest modifications in protocols or approaches to meet the needs of a particular program

  • Remaining current on technical and scientific developments related to the research interests of the Membrane Technologies group and explore emerging methodologies/platforms to keep the group on the cutting edge of protein expression, purification, and analysis

  • Maintaining instruments and troubleshooting instrumental/experimental problems

This role may be for you if you have:

  • The desire and ability to work on multiple projects in parallel in a fast-paced, team environment

  • A passion for science and innovation with a strong dedication to continual improvement

  • Can work both independently and collaboratively within a group

  • The ability to clearly document experimental results and prepare concise presentations for collaborators and senior management

In order to be considered for this role, you must have at least a Ph.D. degree in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry or related discipline with 0-3 years post-doctoral training. We need someone with in-depth knowledge about membrane protein structure and function. Prior experience in structure biology (X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM) and structure analysis software (Pymol, Coot, Chimera) is highly desirable. Must have extensive experience with membrane protein expression in eukaryotic host systems (ie. yeast, insect, and/or mammalian cells). We need someone with experience in analytical approaches for screening and optimizing construct design, expression, and purification conditions. Experience with reconstitution of membrane proteins into nanodiscs is required.
