Associate Scientist / Sr. Associate Scientist, Purification | Just-Evotec, Redmond, WA |

Just is seeking a motivated and creative scientist or engineer who desires a significant opportunity to improve worldwide access to biotherapeutics. As a downstream design scientist/engineer, you will join a fast-paced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team to develop purification processes for low-cost biotherapeutic manufacturing. Process design at Just-Evotec means exposure to innovative technologies like high throughput automated robotic screening and continuous processing technologies for a first-of-its-kind flexible and reconfigurable manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will have experience in chromatography and filtration theory and operations. Experience with high throughput chromatography screening, chromatography mechanistic modeling, multicolumn chromatography and/or process modeling is a plus. The ideal candidate has strong written and verbal communications skills, works well independently and in teams, and continually looks for ways to improve processes and technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop purification processes for biotherapeutics manufacturing
  • Transfer processes to clinical and commercial manufacturing facilities
  • Technology development to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of purification processes

Position Requirements:

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering, Biochemistry or related field and 0-5 years of experience
  • Knowledgeable in chromatography and filtration theory, downstream development, buffer compounding and scale-up strategy
  • Excellent experimental design and analysis skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with chromatography operations including using Akta systems
  • Experience with filtration operation including executing bench-scale dead-end filtration, viral filtration, UF/DF, and depth filtration
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and analysis using statistical software packages (JMP, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Experience with automation method development and operation using robotic liquid handling systems and high throughput chromatography resin screening
  • Experience with multi column chromatography
  • Experience with process modeling and chromatography mechanistic modeling
  • Experience with continuous and connected processing

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $63,000 to $80,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual’s skills, experience and competitive market value.
