The Process Engineering Center (PEC), as part of the Engineering Tech Center, is primarily responsible for providing global technical expertise and customer service support to the Lilly Manufacturing, Global Facilities Delivery, Lilly Research Laboratories organizations.


Responsibilities:
This role provides discipline leadership (including oversight of the community, technology development, knowledge sharing, mentoring of junior talent), technical consultation to sites, support major capital, and network with the external community at large.  This role focuses on the technologies and operations that make up the Dry Products Network for pharma products as well as other networks that employ solid dosage formulation unit operations.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Technical and Discipline Leadership

  • Provide technical oversight for Dry Products Network oral solid dosage process engineering globally including Lilly manufacturing sites and external manufacturing partners.  Support commercialization of new products and improvements to existing commercial manufacturing processes through technical evaluation, technology assessments, and assistance in local capital project execution when needed.
  • Maintain and increase knowledge on the mechanics of dry product equipment technology such as, Mixers, Dry Granulation, Continuous Manufacturing, Compression, Capsule filling, Tablet Coating, Printing technology, Fluid Bed granulation & drying
  • Consult in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of significant manufacturing issues.
  • Provide ongoing technical mentoring to Lilly engineers across the manufacturing network.
  • Support the development and maintenance of engineering requirements (Standards, Master Specifications), Best Practices and Technical Reports.
  • Partner with other senior technical staff to direct discipline activities, oversight of the community of practice, new technology development and technology assessments.
  • Technical Communication and Knowledge Sharing – Share general technical knowledge and project learning with technical peers, operations staff, and management. Publish technical information for access by global Lilly sites.

Major Capital Support

  • Provide technical consulting in conceptual and detailed design on major capital projects in partnership with Global Facilities Delivery. Assist in startup assistance as needed for new processes and/or technology.  Promote and develop the use of Requirements for effective and efficient designs.

Productivity

  • Identify and sponsor productivity improvement projects through unit operations improvements. Promote replication of best practices within the network, and across networks.
  • Safety and Compliance - Ensure personal compliance with all applicable regulatory and corporate policy requirements; Ensure appropriate safety practices and procedures are in place and are followed to prevent injuries.  Lead and drive initiatives that improve process safety across the Dry Products Network.


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering (e.g. ChE, ME, IE, BME) or related science
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Pharmaceutical Process Engineering and related Dry Products manufacturing functional areas (e.g. Quality, TSMS, Plant Engineering, Operations)

  • Knowledge and proven ability to apply engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative approaches to problems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to recruit, organize, and effectively influence people across organizational boundaries
  • Sound project management skills with a high-level of customer focus oriented on follow-through-to-completion
  • Expertise in data analysis, including statistical principles, advanced spreadsheet applications, and electronic modeling practices.
  • An ability to appropriately select, design and specify a wide range of process equipment.


Additional Information:

  • This position supports the Dry Products network globally and may require US (including Puerto Rico) and OUS travel (10-25%)
  • This position requires the ability to access many different manufacturing sites and areas
  • This is not a fully remote position
