As part of our vision, Moderna is committed to invest in R&D to further expand our impact on patients. We are building a Translational Analytics group under the Clinical Development part of the Oncology Therapeutic Area. The group will be focused on mining the multi-omics data obtained from clinical samples, understanding how the data can explain and predict clinical efficacy to Moderna therapies, and extrapolate from these observations to enable future Moderna therapies. It is our intention to expand the discovery process from pre-clinical studies into the realm of clinical investigation.

The Clinical Bioinformatics Scientist will be a key member of a high performing team responsible for understanding the clinical mechanisms of Moderna cancer therapies, from cancer vaccines to other types of immune engagers for the treatment of cancer. You will be an innovative and collaborative Clinical Bioinformatician with a broad expertise in data analytics, broad skills in the area of mining genomics and high learning agility. In collaboration with Translational Medicine scientists, you will develop and apply computational methods to analyze large data sets coming from the clinical studies in Modernas oncology portfolio and large commercial and publicly available datasets. The candidate must thrive in a fast-paced environment with high expectations. Integrity, ability to share experimental issues and troubleshoot, curiosity, collaborative spirit, respect for people, exemplary work ethic and setting the bar high are key values to thrive in our Team.

Heres What You Will Do:

  • Use existing and emerging computational approaches to analyze complex multimodal internal clinical and publicly available or commercial patient datasets in order to extract clinically actionable insights

  • Perform integrative analysis of complex multi-omics data across various data modalities and connect insights and observations to clinical endpoints

  • Work with internal groups at Moderna as well as external partners to solve problems using cutting-edge data visualization and analysis

  • Communicate findings to multiple parties

  • Collaborate closely with Translational Medicine and Oncology Research scientists to ensure that data is effectively utilized for high level impact

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD plus 2+ years of experience in a quantitative field (i.e., bioinformatics, computational/systems biology) within an industry drug discovery and development setting

  • Experience working on problems involving complex biological systems at high-resolution

  • Experience using computational methods to extract insight from large datasets

  • Experience with the analysis of NGS data

  • Strong grounding in the state-of-the art with respect to single cell biology and computational analysis

  • Experience with applying machine learning methods (ML/AI) to biological data

  • Ability to quickly conceive and implement custom computational methods and algorithms and apply them to large data sets

About Moderna

In over 10 years since its inception, Moderna has transformed from a research-stage company advancing programs in the field of messenger RNA (mRNA), to an enterprise with a diverse clinical portfolio of vaccines and therapeutics across seven modalities, a broad intellectual property portfolio in areas including mRNA and lipid nanoparticle formulation, and an integrated manufacturing plant that allows for rapid clinical and commercial production at scale. Moderna maintains alliances with a broad range of domestic and overseas government and commercial collaborators, which has allowed for the pursuit of both groundbreaking science and rapid scaling of manufacturing. Most recently, Moderna's capabilities have come together to allow the authorized use and approval of one of the earliest and most effective vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna's mRNA platform builds on continuous advances in basic and applied mRNA science, delivery technology and manufacturing, and has allowed the development of therapeutics and vaccines for infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune diseases. Moderna has been named a top biopharmaceutical employer by Science for the past seven years. To learn more, visit www.modernatx.com.
