Position Overview

The Senior Clinical Accountant is responsible for clinical trial and study accounting and accruals, including maintaining the clinical trial accounting model, related account reconciliations, journal entries, and SOX controls development, maintenance, and testing support. 

This is a new role at Avidity to support our growth and expansion of our clinical and study operations. You will develop an in-depth understanding of key drivers in the clinical and study operations and build relationships with clinical and FP&A personnel to become a trusted partner and drive process improvements and efficiencies in accounting for clinical trials and studies. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist with establishment, operation and updating of internal controls, including narrative standard operating procedure documentation and communication
  • Prepare and/or review monthly account reconciliations
  • Review and determine the accounting for all clinical agreements, including but not limited to CRO contracts, consultant contracts, protocols, investigator clinical trial agreements, laboratory service providers, and supporting technology platforms
  • Analyze the sufficiency of prepaid and accrued expense account balances related to clinical programs while maintaining clear detailed support for balances
  • Review clinical and study purchase orders to ensure adherence to the contract terms and appropriate inclusion in the clinical and study accounting/accrual records.
  • Review vendor invoices for payments against contracts and work performed appropriate inclusion in the clinical and study accounting/accrual records.
  • Prepare monthly results packages (i.e., budget-to-actual analysis, forecast-to-actual analysis, trending analysis, etc.)
  • With oversight, perform month-end close responsibilities including posting journal entries to the general-ledger and performing account reconciliations.
  • Support external auditors during internal control testing and financial audits
  • Establish and maintain a SOX 404 compliant control environment, including process flowcharts, narratives, and control matrices
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of accounting systems and other technology platforms and improvements
  • You may be tasked with other finance and accounting duties, as well, to help with the monthly close, management reporting, and SEC filings.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • BA in Finance or Accounting with CPA (or in progress) is required; advanced degree or training is a plus, (MBA, Certificates)
  • 6+ years of accounting and finance experience
  • 3+ years of experience within accounting and finance for clinical operations (clinical studies projections, CRO contracts, change orders)
  • Experience with SOX 404 compliant accounting and environments / processes
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent internal customer service skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to develop relationships within and outside the finance team
  • Proactively manage tasks and workloads; flexible, able to adapt/adjust with short notice
  • Capable of making good judgments, anticipate needs, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision and cooperatively as a team
  • Responsive and reliable
  • Demonstrate absolute discretion when dealing with confidential matters
  • Proficient with various ERP environments, MS Office with advanced knowledge of Excel

 Salary range: $130,000 - $160,000. Salary commensurate with experience
