Job Details
We are seeking a dedicated researcher to develop methods at the interface between machine learning and statistical genetics to provide a deeper understanding of human biology and aid in discovering novel therapeutic targets, enabling Regeneron to deliver novel medicines to patients in need. The role will include hands-on research and methods development, working across various applications involving large-scale genetic variation and electronic health record datasets at the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC). You will design, implement, and refine methods and analyses to connect genetic variation to human health and disease.
In this Associate Manager role, a typical day might include the following:
Develop and apply innovative methods at the interface between statistical genetics and MLand deploy them at scale to answer biological and disease genetics questions that cover all the areas of interest of RGC.
Take a leading role on special projects involving genome-scale analyses of human genetic data and their application to elucidate complex trait biology.
Help facilitate the implementation of novel methods into RGC pipelines.
Collaborate with other authorities in statistical and genomic data analysis, molecular and cellular biology, clinical informatics, and medicine to apply ground breaking methods to analyze and interpret data at scale.
Implement solutions using modern cluster and cloud computing environments. Use advanced tools for genomic analyses, fstatistical analyses, machine learning and computation to complete analyses at scale and to facilitate effective annotation, sharing and collaboration.
Critically review and provide feedback on statistical methods and analysis plans, results and summaries to ensure they are accurate and reliable.
Identify potential problems and propose remedies or refinements.
This job might be for you if you:
Have a strong work ethic and are proactive in providing solutions to foster scientific collaborations, troubleshooting challenges, and driving projects forward.
Are a motivated teammate who desires to pursue genetic discovery in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Enjoy working in a highly interactive environment with a diverse team of colleagues.
Have outstanding communication skills to summarize and present new statistical methods and concepts and the results of human genetic studies to various technical audiences, including authorities in statistical genetics and computation, biology, drug design and medicine.
Bring passion, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking to large-scale genomic analysis.
To be considered for this role, you must have a PhD in Statistical Genetics, Machine Learning, or a related field, as well as some postdoc experience. A strong background in developing MLand/or statistical genetics methods in a creative and insightful manner is required, evidenced by a strong publication record. Candidates with a machine learning background will demonstrate experience across a range of methods such as deep learning, transfer learning, autoencoders, kernel methods, dimension reduction, latent space models, MCMC, and graphical models. Candidates with a statistical genetics background will demonstrate experience across a range of genetic association study methods such as design, quality control, association analysis (e.g. PLINK, BOLT-LMM, SAIGE, REGENIE), phasing, imputation, polygenic risk scores, fine mapping (e.g. FINEMAP, SUSIE), colocalization (e.g. COLOC, eCAVIAR), mendelian randomization (e.g. SMR), heritability, population structure, functional interpretation, and data visualization. Clear experience in coding and developing analysis packages and tools in C/C++ is highly desired, as demonstrated by contributor roles to statistical packages available on GitHub or elsewhere. Experience with multiple tools for machine learning and/or statistical genetics applied to large-scale analyses is desired.
