SUMMARY:
The Senior Medical Director, Medical Affairs Psychiatry will serve as the most senior internal medical and scientific expert for assigned psychiatry portfolio, developing and driving key medical strategies integrated with Brand strategy. The Senior Medical Director will lead the Psychiatry Medical Team, including the home office and field team, and oversee the medical affairs strategy and plans execution and effective allocation of personnel and financial resources to support overall Lundbeck Medical Affairs objectives across Psychiatry therapeutic area. The Senior Medical Director will ensure accurate, robust and appropriate medical/scientific point of view and clinical expertise within the therapeutic area, being the accountable medical/scientific person for all key stakeholders (Medical Strategy Team, Brand Team, Global Medical Team, Alliance Medical Team etc.) necessary to reach corporate objectives and goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- As a lead of Medical Strategy Team, the Senior Medical Director leads the development and drives medical strategies and oversees implementation and execution of key medical initiatives aligned with the Brand strategies in the Psychiatry therapeutic area with special focus on the upcoming launches of Agitation in Alzheimer’s Dementia for brexpiprazole and two month long acting injectable for aripiprazole.
- Provides US scientific and strategic input to the global Psychiatry Medical Team.
- Secures Lundbeck US medical point of view within the US alliance partnership.
- Leads resource planning and talent development, including the home office and field team, to support high performance, and to align with strategic direction for Lundbeck.
- Participates in budgetary processes as part of annual business planning, as per alliance agreements, and review of expenses within US Medical Affairs Psychiatry.
- Provides Lundbeck point of view for US Evidence generation planning, as per alliance agreements, including Phase IV and IIT strategy planning, as well as Lundbeck US strategic input to the Psychiatry products LCM plans based on the clinical and scientific knowledge and expertise and strong network in the US Psychiatry medical community.
- Maintains and further develops partnerships and network with key opinion leaders in the Psychiatry scientific community.
- Reviews business development opportunities, translating business needs to clinically relevant development strategies that provide a competitive advantage.
- Provides US medical point of view for regulatory interactions, including the submission of regulatory documents and presentations, as well as secures medical and scientific expertise and collaboration with the Global Patient Safety team within Lundbeck US.
- Provides leadership input for SOPs development for the activities conducted by Medical Affairs; ensuring all Medical Affairs Psychiatry team activities are following ICH and other international regulatory guidelines and follow relevant GCPs and SOPs.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
- Accredited MD, DO, PharmD or PhD
- 9+ years of experience which may include a combination of progressive medical/scientific affairs experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry and relevant clinical or academia experience within CNS
- Expertise in collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams; including local and global medical affairs, alliance partnerships, as well as external healthcare providers/scientists, to meet shared objectives
- Demonstrated strategic leadership with the ability to partner with commercial cross functional team to develop, execute and deliver on strategic brand plans to meet business objectives
- Prior people leadership experience with a coaching mindset and capability to envision, influence and implement change.
- Strong scientific analytical skills
- Excellent planning, organization, and proactive problem-solving capabilities, including prioritization of resource allocation to achieve greatest impact
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present complex medical/scientific concepts
- Demonstrated agile mindset and ability to take productive, decisive action in times of uncertainty and ambguity
- Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity, representing the company’s high ethics, moral behavior, and professionalism
- Intimate knowledge of Regulatory/FDA requirements, as well as medical affairs compliance standards
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Specialty training in psychiatry (board certification or eligibility in psychiatry)
- Alzheimer’s Disease and Psychiatry therapeutic areas strongly preferred experience
- Professional society membership(s) relevant to psychiatry.
TRAVEL
- Willingness/Ability to travel up to 30% domestically. International travel may be required.
The range displayed is a national range, and if selected for this role, may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s geographical location, qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $260,000 - $300,000 and eligibility for a 30% bonus target based on company and individual performance, and eligibility to participate in the company’s long-term incentive plan.
