Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role, you will be the key scientific interface between Translational Safety & Bioanalytical Sciences (TS&BA) and your project teams from discovery through post-marketing.

The TS&BA function at Amgen is seeking a Scientific Director to serve as a Project Team Representative (PTR) and a Subject Matter Expert (SME), reporting to the Executive Director US Head Translational Safety and Bioanalytical Sciences Portfolio Scientific Leadership.

You will develop and implement fit-for-purpose nonclinical safety strategies based on a strong scientific foundation, flexibly evolve the strategy in response to team goals and emerging data and lead or influence multidisciplinary teams. As TS&BA PTR, you will partner with Project Teams developing therapeutics using multiple modalities (including biotherapeutics, small molecules and RNA therapies) to treat diseases in inflammation, cardiometabolic diseases, and/or oncology. TS&BA PTRs are encouraged to develop subject matter expertise related to a specific therapeutic area (e.g., obesity, dyslipidemia, etc.), modality, or safety concern. As an SME, you will provide advice, mentorship and support including at relevant occurrences of the TS&BA Portfolio Scientific Advisory Committee.

The successful candidate will have:
  • A sustained track record of scientific leadership as well as in preclinical development with a strong understanding of cross-functional needs and the ability to develop integrated plans to enable successful development of a therapeutic.
  • Organizational management and leadership experience including leadership of multi-disciplinary teams, leadership of critical initiatives and managing through organizational change.
  • Deep expertise in stages of development preceding First-in-Human with a passion for biological understanding and application of biological insights to program success.
  • Experience developing therapeutics of various modalities, e.g., small and large molecules, including fit-for-purpose study designs and selection of nonclinical species.
  • Working knowledge of GLP regulation and regulatory guidelines.
  • Prior work experience at, or collaborating with, contract research organizations.
  • Interest and ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert in a specific area.
  • Excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to influence a broad spectrum of partners toward achieving business goals.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Toxicology, Pharmacology or other related field.

Or

Masters degree and 7 years of Toxicology, Pharmacology or other related field.

Or

Bachelors degree and 9 years of Toxicology, Pharmacology or other related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 years of drug development experience including interactions with regulatory agencies.
  • Prior experience with discovery and development of therapeutics for the treatment of cardiometabolic disorders (e.g., obesity).

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $187,090 - $214,547.
