OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

  • Works with departmental and/or cross functional peers to execute on basic experiments, under limited supervision
  • Assists in the development and implementation of HTS protocols and execution of complex experiments
  • Reviews, interprets, and communicates data internally through team presentations and writing of technical reports
  • Supports the development and implementation of digital knowledgebases and tools to drive Takeda towards complete digital data collection
  • This is an on-site role.

SCOPE

The Cell Therapy Robotics and Automation team is a collaborative team of engineers and biologists focused on the implementation of automated analytical tools and processes to foster the development of cell therapy manufacturing across Takeda’s multiple cell therapy products. We are looking for a Senior Research Associate (sRA) or Research Investigator (RI) to support the team with the development of novel methods and protocols for operation on an integrated high throughput system (HTS). This sRA/RI will make contributions to multiple complex projects while helping to design and implement the next generation of Cell Therapy manufacturing at Takeda.

  • Experience in mammalian non-adherent and adherent cell culture, cell transfection and transduction, execution of functional in vitro assays relevant for various types of immune cells and/or stem cells
  • Experience of working on and writing scripts for an automated liquid handling system such as Hamilton, Tecan, HighRes, or similar integrated systems is highly preferred
  • Experience working with departmental and/or cross functional peers to coordinate and execute on complex projects
  • Benefit to have experience working with MSC, NK cells, and gamma delta T cells
  • Benefit to have first-hand experience with automated cell therapy manufacturing technologies and general knowledge of the cell therapy manufacturing process
  • Benefit to have experience writing of technical reports and documents

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Works with departmental and/or cross functional peers to execute on assignments, under limited supervision
  • Assists in the development and implementation of automation protocols and owns responsibility for daily operation and maintenance of the high throughout system
  • Supports the definition and troubleshooting of methods on the high throughput robot as well as training of new associates on robotic processing
  • Actively works with peers on converting manual processes to automated process to increase throughput and accuracy
  • Reviews, interprets and communicates data internally (e.g., to supervisor, project teams) and prepares technical reports.
  • Supports local initiatives as directed by supervisor and participates in global CMC or functional initiatives as appropriate
  • Collaborates with Data and Digital teams to provide data to map towards Digital CMC strategy and enable integration of multiple Process Analytical Technologies (PATs)
  • Demonstrates in-depth technical knowledge within discipline
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of concepts, applications and methods as the recognized technical expert in subfield
  • Able to clarify requests and provide suggestions and put data into context
  • Understands why one series of experiments is more appropriate than others
  • Ability to work well in a global cross-functional team environment and expresses oneself clearly and concisely
  • Receives high level instructions on all work; acts independently to determine methods on new assignments

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • MS in a scientific discipline (or equivalent) with some relevant industry experience. or
  • BS in a scientific discipline with 3+ years experience
  • Highly proficient in standard aseptic cell culture techniques and tools and experience working with primary immune cells
  • Basic understanding of the cell therapy manufacturing process and associated tools
  • Experience of working on and writing scripts for an automated liquid handling system such as Hamilton, Tecan, HighRes, or similar integrated systems is highly preferred
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools (JMP or similar) to drive experimental design and optimization via DoE and similar approaches
  • Understanding of hardware/data integration requirements, particularly around the (in-line) integration of Process Analytical Technologies (PATs) to manufacturing systems such as bioreactors
  • Proficiency with integrated high throughput system scripting languages and tools such as Hamilton VENUS, Antha Synthace, etc.
  • Proficiency with data mining, data analysis and data visualization skills (GraphPad Prism, R/Python or similar) for effective and efficient data communication
  • Ability to quickly identify problems/issues and be proactive in proposing and implementing solutions
  • Ability to work well in a global cross-functional team environment and expresses oneself clearly and concisely
  • Ability to exercise good time management and prioritization skills to balance multiple project and departmental objectives

Base Salary Range: 87,500 to 125,000. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.

The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
