The Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization at Lilly discovers best in class and first in class biotherapeutics by integrating biology, chemistry, and innovative scientific capabilities. We are pursuing novel biotherapeutic discovery and targeted delivery of various modalities of drug candidates to specific cells and tissues. To accomplish this, we collaborate with colleagues in both the discovery and development organizations, including scientists in Neuroscience, Immunology, Diabetes and Complications, Oncology, ADME, Toxicology and clinical development. Our main goal is to advance the discovery of breakthrough medicines across a wide range of disease areas. We are seeking a curious postdoctoral scientist with a strong background in biology and biochemistry.  We are looking for a problem-solver with experience in building biomolecules and biological model systems in the targeted drug delivery space. The successful candidate will be working collaboratively with subject matter experts to build rational design strategies for targeted delivery of molecules, develop new cell-based assays, and pioneer new strategies for cell-specific delivery.  The candidate will develop and implement in vitro and analytical model systems to enable SAR and testing applications for protein design, nucleic acid delivery, with the goal of advancing new protein designs and targeted molecules.

Specifically, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Collaborate closely with computational scientists, protein chemists and biologists to spearhead new systems for targeted delivery of nucleic acids

  • Generate impactful data focused on achieving and improving productive oligonucleotide delivery, resulting in selection of specific molecules for further exploration of biology in cells and in in vivo models.

  • Contribute to the advancement of novel approaches to evaluate proteins and molecules for their ability to delivery oligonucleotide cargo to cell types of interest, such as neurons, immune cells, adipocytes, pancreatic beta cells and others.

  • Surround yourself with multi-disciplinary experts in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment with the opportunity to lead and mentor a team of scientists and research associates.

  • Present findings at conferences and publish in high quality peer-reviewed journals.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in life sciences related field such as cell biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, pharmacology.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Direct, hands-on research experience in chemical biology, molecule engineering, and cellular assays.

  • Multidisciplinary scientist with technical experience related to in cell culture, cell assays, gene and protein expression analysis, and analytical skills. Experience working with cells and proteins is highly desirable. 

  • Ability to work independently and deliver progress in a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team setting.

  • Creative thinker and innovative problem solver with the ability to integrate and apply diverse pieces of information to projects

  • Leadership demonstrated through the ability to deliver impactful data to advance projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with advanced scientific software (e.g., Spotfire, JMP, MOE).
