The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager will drive world class EHS performance across the site in a diverse biotech/pharma environment. The role will be responsible for the execution of key EHS processes including:

  • Continuous EHS improvement of manufacturing across site

  • Trending and interpretation of EHS information and provide data intelligence and actions

  • Provide single point of contact EHS support for the Synthetics Supply and Facilities & Engineering functions at the Thousand Oaks, CA campus

  • Provide overall EHS guidance with skilled emphasis on process safety, combustible powder, chemical safety, pressure safety, lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, and industrial safety.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Partner with internal clients and other EHS staff (including but not limited to pilot plant, synthetics and biologics manufacturing, facilities & engineering, warehouse operations, etc.) to enhance EHS performance and provide guidance/coaching to key collaborators

  • Collect/Analyze performance metrics and establish annual action plans to drive continuous improvement.

  • Ensure proper EHS change management

  • Establish safe work procedures for non-routine and high hazard activities and processes

  • Perform routine Genba walks and manage routine inspections of the work areas

  • Monitor EHS performance trends and assist management with course correction when needed

  • Assist with incident management and organizational learning

  • Participate in regular EHS management reviews with functional leadership

  • Provide guidance and support to business so that: EHS is proactively integrated into facilities, products / processes, and business decision change management. EHS risks are evaluated, prevented, controlled, and reduced through proper risk mitigation planning. Staff/contractors demonstrate active caring behaviors while integrating EHS into their daily work and decisions

  • Support and implement EHS Management System processes such as change control, risk assessments, audits, inspections, behavior-based safety activities, training, etc.

  • Facilitate complex risk assessments such as process safety, reactive chemistry, and combustible powder

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Masters degree and 3 years of EHS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment

OR

Bachelors degree and 5 years of EHS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment

OR

Associates degree and 10 years of EHS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of EHS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in safety, industrial hygiene, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, biology, or other life science areas

  • Applied knowledge and understanding of EHS and process safety practices, engineering principles, regulatory standards, and requirements in context of business activities

  • Ability to take ownership for several projects / initiatives at one time with an emphasis on quality and organization

  • Demonstrated EHS leadership supporting manufacturing or laboratory environments. Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and influence management

  • 5 7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry implementing industrial and safety programs

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, committed, self-starting, program development and project management

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems

  • Competent level understanding of hazardous area classification, combustible powders, PSM (Process Safety Management) and chemical safety

  • Experience in emergency response planning

  • Ability to read P&IDs

  • Ability to translate complex process safety topics into comprehensible language for managers and operators

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $99,533 - $122,280.
