Join the Lilly team!Responsibilities:- Build and lead an innovative lab passionate about novel approaches to identify and validate targets/pathways that will regulate energy balance through a prism of cellular energetics, muscle biology and/or lipid metabolism. Bring novel, high potential targets into the pipeline for therapeutic approaches for the treatment of obesity and related metabolic disorders.
- Design and coordinate implementation of in vitro/ex vivo/in vivo tools to characterize novel drug discovery molecules for potency, efficacy and mechanism of action.
- Directly recruit and supervise scientists and provide mentoring, performance management and career development.
- Provide strategic insights and scientific direction to the overall goals and objectives of the obesity research platforms.
- Communicate and work effectively in a team environment with inter-departmental colleagues to impact the project pipeline.
- Provide preclinical biology leadership on cross-functional project teams to expeditiously solve challenges and progress projects.
- Maintain scientific expertise and presence in the external scientific community through publication, collaborations, and presentations in the areas of diabetes and metabolic disease.
- Ph.D. and at least 7 years of relevant experience beyond post-doctoral training; a minimum of 2 years postdoctoral training preferred.
- Deep expertise in the pathogenesis of obesity or energy metabolism; detailed understanding of peripheral mechanisms that regulate energy balance with particular focus on muscle physiology and energy utilization.
- Demonstrated experience in leading scientific projects either in an industry setting or through training of students/post-docs and/or cross functional collaborations in academia.
- Experience with integrated physiological assessments of cellular metabolism, energy expenditure, muscle function, lipid flux/metabolism in the context of molecular regulation of metabolic control.
- Exposure to drug discovery in the pharma/biotech industry or through collaborations.
- Expertise with state-of-the art genomic tools and ability to effectively interact with data scientists and bioinformaticians.
