The Role:

Reporting to the Associate Director, EH&S, this role is responsible for helping to cultivate a productive, healthy accident free workplace while minimizing Modernas environmental footprint by promoting EH&S policies. The EH&S Program Manager will manage programs as assigned by the EHS Senior Manager and closely coordinate with managers and employees to ensure site activities are performed in accordance with established procedures in compliance with applicable EH&S laws/regulations, industry standards and best practices.

Heres What Youll Do:

Environmental Health and Safety Activities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to employees for the purpose of improving EH&S performance.

  • Manage the development, implementation and administration of EH&S program elements as assigned. These may include programs or elements of Laboratory Safety, Biosafety, Chemical Safety, Radiation Safety, Vivarium Safety, Process Hazard Assessment, Contractor Safety, Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, Emergency Response, Incident Reporting, and Sustainability Programs.

  • Lead EHS committees and teams such as lab safety, green team and IBC. Provide EHS representation on other committees and teams such as IACUC and lab operations.

  • Conduct EH&S laboratory safety inspections and follow-up.

  • Support the life safety and occupational health programs (fire drills, floor wardens, medical surveillance, medical response, animal allergy, respiratory protection, early intervention, etc)

  • Manage accident/incident investigations and coordinate corrective/preventative action measures to closure.

  • Manage the completion and maintenance of regulatory reports and permitting as assigned.

  • Participate and support facilities safety, construction design projects, contractor safety program and safe work permitting.

  • Review, address, propose and/or resolve health and safety concerns.

  • Ability to function as an emergency coordinator and respond to emergencies during off-hours.

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental or Safety related science field, Minimum 8 years of experience in EH&S discipline related field/industry

  • Experience in a research laboratory environment

  • Must be willing to obtain/maintain applicable OSHA, EPA RCRA, and DOT certifications

  • Willingness to take on new responsibilities and learn new skills

  • Strong leadership / team building skills / effective interpersonal communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)

  • Well organized, detail oriented and capable of managing rapidly changing priorities in a rapid growth environment

  • Computer skills: proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
